Apart from the completion of the gents, plus some additional SR fencing, and down platform lamp standards, it seems there's not much more which can really be done….

Planting the fir tree next to the station building is an idea. But there is another possibility too. Personally I’d like to see a replica water tank and the requisite water supply and drainage sorted before any track goes back. Might make a good crowdfunding scheme once the hard work of designs, planning permission, quotations etc. is undertaken. Certainly that would catch my wallet’s attention.

I believe there is a short length of track at Chelfham, will a bit more be laid between the platforms to complete the picture ?

You'll be wanting a carriage on a length of track at Snapper next, you will! :)

Seriously though, that sounds like a suitable subject for a ringfenced funding drive, if ever there was one. Trouble is, so does a lot else besides! It'd need to not be a drain on fundraising potential to lengthen the running line, which surely has to be the priority for the Company and the Trust alike.

... plus three miles of track to Bratton Fleming thrown in for good measure? :D

Tell ya wot .... anyone sending Woody Bay a current photo of a 2ft gauge loco's remains bearing the number "2042" stamped on 'em, with a W3W location and a way of turning said location into tops.expectant.barrow could suggest practically anything, by way of an L&B project and they'd have my full, immediate and unconditional backing! :)

I didn't write the software. You can tell, coz it doesn't use rope.wobbly.chair and party.party.party is in California. No surprises there! :)

Pity they can't afford or be bothered with proper tea though... Tea bags are just so cheap...

In the latest news from Exmoor Associates, they are in the process of buying three more sections of track bed, which extend existing lengths to give a much longer continuous section. So good progress is being maintained in securing the track bed for the future use of the L&B.

However, coming so soon after the Hunnacott purchase in December, understandably the available funds in the war chest are somewhat depleted.
For non- members of EA on here wishing to purchase shares in a tax-efficient way, I've attached the appeal leaflet as a pdf. Please give what you can to secure these strategically important sections of trackbed.

Before anyone asks or speculates - they will not say where these sections of trackbed are until contracts are exchanged. If you want to know quickly then you need to become a supporter of EA.

Mike Buse, John Buck et al have impressed me no end since their successful purchase of Bratton Fleming, and very good to see the creation of the Yeo Valley Trust to nable reclaiming of Gift Aid. A (small, sadly) contribution shortly on its way!

Looking at the map of the line on the L&B site, and knowing that the proposed purchase is in the southern part of the line and links together existing parts of the track-bed, there are only a couple of stretches that it can be: Chelfham to Snapper, or Chelfham to Bratton. It will be interesting to see which!

@Meiriongwril would it really have been too much effort for you to not speculate until the deals have been finalised, as requested just two posts before yours?

For all we know right now, it could be land associated with those edifices blocking the route between Pilton and Barnataple Town. That'd certainly make life more interesting for EA's specialists! ;)

On balance, as always with matters L&B, their track record means I'm perfectly content to await an official announcement. :Banhappy:

we own sections of trackbed from Raleigh weir right on the edge of Barnstaple all the way up to Hunnacott just below Wistlandpound so definitely more than two possible sections
