There’s 2 at the BCM, I used to walk past Hobbs’s (the second larger one) on my way to college. As an aside I also knew the guys who dismantled and reassembled it.

Only visited a couple of times due to the distance, but it's a smashing little railway. I don't think even the most ardent anti-expansionist could consider their proposed extension to be excessive (waits to be proven wrong…)

Not sure I should mention this, at the risk of awakening a certain resident of Canada, but what about Wareham?

There's also the Bluebell's plans to go westwards to Ardingly and possibly beyond. The trackbed as far as the boundary with the Hanson aggregates terminal has been acquired and I think there are a couple of bridge spans stored somewhere which are to be used to fill the gap where Sherriff Mill viaduct used to stand. I am not aware that the Bluebell is doing anything physical towards making the extension happening at the moment. It seems to be very much "on the back burner" and understandably so in the present financial climate. Indeed, I believe that Lywood Tunnel is currently let out to someone who is growing mushrooms in it (open to correction on either of these points)

The Bluebell's long term plan also states that "the Railway may consider subsequent extension southwards to the county town of Lewes via Newick & Chailey and Barcombe." but the wording makes it clear that it is an option that isn't categorically being ruled out but isn't going to be pursued for quite some considerable time if at all.

Another long term aspirational extension is the South Devon Railway to Ashburton. I am not aware of current thinking or plans and again am open to correction by anyone who knows more, but from what little I know, it seems to be a case of "We'd like to get back to Ashburton one day if we can somehow raise an awful lot of money and can create a new formation, but we're not actively doing anything about it at the moment."

Wareham, Ontario? Think the closest railway was at Proton Station.

I know this is thread drift but that Night Ferry Sleeper Coach up for sale at the Bluebell,suitably7 restoredwould be an asset to other SR Heritage Railways, yes especially Swanage!

Why Swanage? It would have no connection to that line and would look completely out of place - plus sleeping cars are useless on heritage railways for commercial purposes, and thhe Swanage is desperately short of siding space as it is....

One or other of the two Maunsell’s would be far more in keeping, and operationally useful to boot.

When I was there a few years ago, one village wanted the Middy extended to reach them because they didnt have a pub and wanted transport to - and more importantly from the Middy Bar on a Friday night

Would adding a weekly curry night make it a more attractive prospect? :)
