That's the place, mind you it wouldn't take long for two of the Bulleid Pacifics to empty the yard

At one time Poole was awash with coal. The Gas Works consumed thousands of tonnes pw, Corralls..a had a big depot over on New Quay where the beautifully kept engines "Bonnie Prince Charlie{ and "Western Pride" were at work

Is that the Railway or the Nation.?? Record low unemployment numbers here in Canada' Economy going full steam AND lots of fossil fuels being used. Support is a delicate flower,it is given freely but needs constant attention. SR had great community spirit and input in earlier years and that is how it survived an existential crisis in the 80s

Gladiator mentioned Poole and coal so i merely followed on. Apart from colliers Poole Quay had B4s shunting the docks and from the school yard one could see the Poole shunter, an M7 bringing in the empties for the coke production. As i understand it coal IS still being produced in Wales to supply the steel industry and there are mothballed operations in Cumbria and Northumbria , From my observation the Co2 produced daily by motor vehicles in the BCP area alone must be pretty close to that of a small coal pit!!

Based on a post on the wnxx diesel gala thread and having seen it go through Corfe LE on the webcam I assume that 5526 is going back today and the SDR Class 25 for the gala has arrived.
    EDIT
33111 arrived at Swanage with the 25 just before 15:00.

Does anyone know the steam loco for the preview day on 5th May? Obviously a long shot and subject to the usual caveats of course.

I'm a little out of the loop at the moment so I may be wrong, but I would anticipate either 34028 or 34072.

Have you tried lobbying UK policy makers or even heaven forbid the Colombian powers that be, or is this the only place you blow your hot air?

That is if you really feel that strongly about it…

If you REALLY want to go down this route, lets look at the squeaky clean UK coal industry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonypandy_riots.

Or should we go into the crimes committed further afield by Britain? Because it isn't helpful either way.

There is a thread in the general rail forum about the future of coal supply and alternatives.

I see that the current Swanage Railway magazine editor has retired. Has a new editor been appointed for the Summer issue?.

Canada is a wonderful country and I regularly tour British Columbia. For some reason at the moment I'm very pleased that it's thousands of miles away with lots of water between us ;) .<BJ>

Me and Julio down by the coal yard!! Just make sure that Colombian stuff is coal and not coke!! Btw the Vivarail critics must be astounded to read that the Americans are taking another set of the battery powered version. How did the UK trials go with those units, It could have been a lesson on British engineering A Battery powered unit alongside the T3 but for now its "me and the Birds Nest down by the coal yard"

I am amazed given the issues that VivaRail have had, and await results if they go beyond pilot.

Meanwhile, yet again, we have a stamping of the feet from Canada about how the SR is not doing the right thing, without comprehension of the factors determining how railways can be made to operate cost effectively.
