Looking at the allocations setup I would presume they would want it facing London.

It's £6.80 return from Farnborough (hants) by SWR less than a gallon of diesel!!!

That's very useful for punters who live in Farnborough. Could you tell me how much it would cost for a return rail ticket from Bath to Alton please? Also what train would I need to catch to connect with the first gala departure.

Not really relevant for anywhere else though. MHR my next closest line to Swanage and yes £9.10 return from Wareham to Winchester but needs a bus or car to Wareham then a bus to Alresford. So I spend hours getting there and back rather than about 1 hour 30 by car.

£49.70 for me Cambridge, although I also have the advantage of using my bike to get to the station and free parking there. There’s no guarantees my bike will be there on the return though.

Your probably thinking of Welsh Pony with disassemble on a gala

Kilmersdon is still under overhaul, my opinion would be to take the guided workshop tours that are done multiple times each day, as it a tour of the workshops n sheds, the engine would be part of the tour

The freight rake looked really good today, and the 8F sounded great hauling it around for us.
Should look and sound really good at the gala this weekend.

Does anyone know if the car park field at Ropley will be available for this weekend?

The email I received from the railway last night said "We advise you to park in the field by Ropley Station, which is free", so Yes it is. It also said that we should bring the booking reference, which will be swapped for a wristband on arrival.

Thanks; it's probably on their website somewhere, but I couldn't see anything. I might go by train though.

A taster of what to expect from a brake van ride on the freight, riding in the QMB, depending which end the loco is at.

Also, the wagon group will be in attendance at Medstead with our sales stand to try & boost our fighting fund to tame the troublesome trucks!

Plus our Friends in the PWay will be giving rides in their newly restored Wickham trolley in the yard & having experienced a ride in a Wickham, it'll be well worth it - so there's two good reasons to break your journey at Medstead! :):):) ;)

Good day today, but very quiet compared to previous galas, especially behind the "home fleet" engines. I do think the MHR have overpriced this event, especially in comparison with other similar events around the country at the moment and bearing in mind the squeeze on people's money. Hopefully the visitor numbers will pick up over the weekend, otherwise it makes me concerned about future MHR galas.

To be honest, for me it’s not so much the money but the prospect of spending time stranded outside Alton station while the train loco is released and subsequently attached to the coaches in the station and all the other things which have to happen before the train departs, then the pilot loco has to be attached to my train and we finally pull into Alton , maybe 20 minutes later. I won’t spend whatever the ticket price is to be treated like this!
