Perhaps a thing that some cannot face.

I'm sure that 6100's departure for Crewe must be a blow to those at Southall and in the interests of balance your side of the story is appreciated

however there are strong similarities between the latter days of 4472 and 6100 which given location and I believe ostensibly the same team lends itself to not just being coincidence

I think enough has been alluded to on this forum to be quite concerned and let me ask you , is it all total rubbish or do you apprciate and at least concur with some of what is being said ?

I thought it was Lloyds ?
On a different note, considering both are 70% approx UK govt institutions.. if 6100 were repossessed..I wonder if it will it open the door to national collection ownership ?

    Smoke deflectors - excellent!

From what I hear (with very good sources, honest), the quality of work on the Scot is very good, but some of the underlying engineering and all of the project management is and hasbeen rubbish.

It is looking good, I do like the LMS crimson lake livery. Looking forward to seeing it sometime.

I can't quite see how the quality of the work can be good, but some of the engineering rubbish. Sounds like a contradiction in terms.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

lol - well you don't have to be an expert to know that metric nuts don't fit on whitworth studs. And when you do that on a live steam fitting - as someone at Southall evidently has - it's downright dangerous. Nothing to do with any axe to grind. Shame on anyone who tries to defend that sort of stupidity.

As I have said before, I have nothing against any of the volunteers and other grafters at Southall, or anywhere else. What is worth commenting on though, is when standards fail. And by that I mean not just engineering standards. Someone has just reminded me this evening that the HLF funds intended for 6100 haven't all been spent on the restoration of that locomotive. I can't be alone in wondering if the grant was intended for things like a support coach, or even to fund activities off the Bressingham site at all.

Ah, so you're not as knowledgeable - close to the inside - as i thought you were. Some very able and skilled people - some who were paid workers and in fact very few of the original 4472 team - refurbishing and fitting components, but on the other hand some very poor engineering decisions and solutions made at the top and handed down to the team to implement. Plus poor planning and project management par excellence.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

I understand what you are saying, but metric is a rude word at southall, and I can say I have never seen any metric nuts or bolts at southall apart from ones on modern eqipment that came with them, they are not keept in stock.

Would you like to let us know where this Stud was on the loco and what size it is. Was this a finished part or something that was bolted on for the move to Crew?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

My perception of what has been going on was already very close to being as you describe it.

If there's poor management and engineering decisions, that's one thing, and that seems to be the case. But when those so-called able and skilled people not only implement those decisions apparently without question, but then proceed to defend that situation resolutely. It's not so surprising that they become tainted by the adverse comments which then arise.

What I find surprising is that certain people on here who claim to have been involved in these projects, respond to comments on forums such as this, by saying that there's nothing wrong and that anyone who says otherwise don't know what they are talking about. When it's patently obvious that is not the case. What I've been hearing over the past couple of weeks suggests that the situation has in fact been quite a lot worse than has hitherto been apparent.

You're dead right I'm not on the inside. If I had been anywhere near, it would have been in the public domain long ago. But I've heard quite a lot from people who have been involved on the periphery, and when you hear the same things from widely different sources, you don't have to be a genius to work out what's been happening.
