Flew up Dauntsey in the low 70s. Missed out Swindon pathing stop although driver was expecting it. So rolled between Wootton Bassett and Swindon before taking off again to Milton. Steady 70 to 75 for mile after mile. Lovely.

Video of the Duchess at Totnes and near Tiverton Parkway....

I also went down to Liskeard but I was caught out by the tour running nearly 30 minutes early. So just managed a photo....

Here's my footage of 6233 Duchess of Sutherland roaring up the South Devon Banks yet again with The Great Britain XIV. I filmed her on Thursday and today, the locations are Oath, Whiteball, Tigley, Hemerdon Sidings, Burlescombe, and Hunstpill Bridge. I hope you enjoy the video.

Some great running back from PNZ today.

Here's a thought. I know that Tornado has done KGX to EDB in one hop but what about PNZ to VIC via Bristol, Reading and Ascot for the Duchess? It's never faltered and has been a great credit to the owners.

    Agreed.

And thanks also to the RTC for providing the opportunity to travel on such a marathon and for showcasing British steam at its best. I was amazed at, for example, the number of the public who were out and about early on Saturday in Cornwall to watch the train go by. It's not a regular thing down there and the GB tours do spread the heritage steam 'word'.

Finally, I think we really should recognise that without West Coast being prepared to support such a trip it's not likely that it would happen at all with any other operating company on the scale that takes place with the GBs. You don't just turn up and run trains all over the network without needing the people with the route knowledge to do it and the expertise to handle the complexities of interacting with the big railway. And all the crews are enthusiastic, That makes quite a difference, as illustrated by the wonderful running up from Penzance with the Duchess.

Yes, West Coast is sometimes a bit precious about what it does, (I believe!). Sometimes it gets it wrong, is less than open and doesn't always take kindly to when it is 'found out' but the fact remains that it's a resource to treasure. I think we need this set up as much as it needs us and the wider public. That's a fact worth remembering.

Well done to all for GBXIV.

So good to see that a diesel shadowed the GB XIV for much of the tour. The expense and planning must have been considerable.

It just goes to show that the Railway Touring Co. would prefer to run their steam tours unaided. As has been discussed at NP at length before, in the modern railway world this is rarely practical.

Many thanks to RYTC and West Coast for organising the tour. Well done to all <BJ>

Well there you have it. Another wonderful nine days crammed with so many highlights, although 6233’s rip roaring 68 on Whiteball yesterday and the two Jubilees stomping all over Gresford Bank will be my standout moments. Plus the Cornish mainline looking stunning in a sunset and sunrise.

Many thanks again to everyone involved who pull off such a magnificent feat in the world of mainline steam, your efforts are most appreciated. :)
