I've seen that picture and it was quite a sizable pigeon special at that. A few 8F's were part of the Longmoor Military Railway for a period as well and it's possible visits to other parts of the Southern were made.

Lovely photo, I know I take the mick out the Western but I do have a soft spot for the 28xx’s. (And that one in particular)

Comment from one of my colleagues today - that the 28xx looked better near the end of its ticket than some visitors we've had that were fresh out of shops.

I know I say over and over how good MHR is at the world of Youtube. And this just shores it up. A heady mix of history, archive material and stories from those involved. Smashing stuff!

There was no working party atop the hill on Saturday, due to the PWay giving rides on their Wickham trolley, which seemed to prove very popular....

I'd also like to say thank you to those of you who broke your journey at M4M, and helped boost our fighting fund for the troublesome trucks, which I hope you enjoyed seeing in action, or had the pleasure of a trip with them on the QMB!!! :) :) :)

@Ben Jenden, my Ropley spy says he understands your situation, and looks forward to welcoming you as a memeber soon. ;) :)

    Some pics from Saturday......

Just two like minded nutters atop the hill yesterday, as others had fallen by the wayside the day before!!!

Still, after a brew & Brekkie from the bakers, which is begiining to cost yours truly :(, it was time to resume things with LMS van M517317 following last weeks haitus! :)

First thing on the to-do list was just where to store the timbers we have saved from the north side & corrugated ends?........ after some head scratching, it was decided that the only logical place was underneath the Wembley van & so began the process of empying the van & sorting the timbers as we did so before man handling them down the yard and stacking them neatly under the Wembley van, making sure that they were clear of the safety straps, as its due to be moved to the naughty corner at the bottom of Bennetts!

This took most of the morning, as there were more timbers than we thought, plus we had an enforced break due to geting wet, thanks to a heavy downpour that wasn't in the forecast!!!

Once all timbers were stowed beneath the Wembley van, it was time to work out which of the remaining floor timbers would be a quick win....... we discounted the ones in the doorways & opted for the London end ones........

So much for a quick win - the bolts holding down the timbers were either down right stubborn, or in damn awkward places to get the angle grinder in!!! But we persevered and in the end the bolts were out, and the timbers off!!! :)

At this point we checked to see just much red oxide we had to play with....... answer - naff all & certainly not enough to cover what we needed to! :Arghh:

So, after having decided to take lunch, we decamped down to Ropley, as I needed to see a man about a dog....... and also it was now a mission to see if we could lay our hands on some more red oxide.........

After having seen the man about a dog, we ventured to the corner of the yard where the ULS lurk....... ( I had warned my colleague about my Ropley Spy......) in the vain hope that they may be able to spare us some red oxide....... at least when we got there, we were greeted by a freindly face, and whislt exchanging pleasantries about 506's trip to the SVR ( she won many friends there, flattened the bank & basically stole the show! :)) my Ropley Spy appeared........

After explaing our plight, he disappeared into the depths of the ULS set up, and emerged with some red oxide....... with him, things come at a cost :Saywhat: - this time round, I think it was a fair trade....... my mate all but agreeing to become a memeber of the ULS :Jawdrop:

So after beating a hasty retreat back atop the hill, we started derusting the London end section of the solebar and cross members on the LMS van, and then started red oxiding..... our orginal paint soon ran out, so we were glad of the extra from the Urie lads - thanks guys, you dug us out of a hole!!! :):):)

Before we knew it, the last up train had gone past the yard, so it was time to stow the floor planks we'd removed under the Wembley van, pack & tidy up & then head home for some well earned grog!!! :)

For a change, some pics from last weeks gala, mainly showing the freight in operation. :)

I can't recall seeing an update about CanPac on here or on the Steam Traction forum since before the first lockdown. How is the overhaul progressing.

Have you seen the utterly terrifying faces that the Talyllyn use on theirs? You wouldn't be complaining about MHRs if you'd seen them!
