Does anyone know if there is a problem with 46100 as it seems to have been stuck at Guide Bridge for ages
    Thanks

Isn't it a water stop? They sometimes take longer than planned and the train is on the move now, but late.

We got told by a network rail engineer at Hyde North that there was an electrical fault with the Scot and the 47 was being run round. Only for 10 minutes later the Scot to appear without said 47 on the front...

Does anyone have visions of the 47 being sold a dummy by the Scot, and the 47 chasing with the driver shaking his fist out of the window, and sniggering from the Scot's footplate.

Good to see the network infrastructure in such a good state of repair:eek: - a sagging viaduct with a veritable jungle of greenery growing out of it does make you wonder if Network Rail is fit for purpose. But hey - what do I know about railway civil engineering?

Even to the eyes of someone with no structural engineering qualifications, Buddlia growing profusely from cracks in brick and stonework cannot be a good thing.

By mid-afternoon the frequent, percussive showers of the morning had given way to strong sunshine interrupted only briefly by the odd cloud that was quickly swept away by the stiff westerly wind. Despite a delayed departure from Scarborough the train appeared to be on course for a reasonably "on-time" passage along the Calder Valley. After ruling out a few potential locations I settled on Walsden (again). A leisurely drive through Bacup then over the hill saw me arrive at Walsden around 25 minutes before the train was due. As it was currently running around 10L, make that 35ish.

I gathered up my bits and pieces and made my way over the footbridge to the eastbound platform, pausing only briefly to talk with a familiar face who was waiting to photograph the train from the bridge. I set up at the east end of the platform and waited. A check on RTT showed that the 10L at Sowerby Bridge had become 20L at Mytholmroyd (an eastbound service was also delayed). It was pleasant enough sheltered from the wind by the steep hills, the same hills behind which the sun had long vanished. RTT showed the train through Todmorden (16L) and only a short time later the 3 cylinder beat could be heard approaching, then steam in the trees and 46100 appeared on the curve. Working hard, nice grey exhaust and moving quickly up the 1/182. She flashed by, under the footbridge where a group of people had gathered, then into Winterbutlee Tunnel. The carriages followed and finally the tail lights of 47.501 - gone but not forgotten. 43 mph, 16L and as far as I could tell no help from the diesel.

Back home by the quicker route, over Copy Pit and pick up the M65 just west of Rosegrove (also gone but not forgotten). As I joined the motorway I was treated to a wonderful golden sunset. Home at 21:10. Laden with my camera and tripod, Diego (a neighbour's cat) saw his chance and was through the front door before me. A couple of minutes later Mrs W returned from her (successful) owl spotting walk. I settled down in my chair to watch the football, a cup of tea in my hand and a cat on my knee - what a good way to end the day.
