Yes, I'm aware of the modest "Britain's most luxurious train" marketing. It's clearly a high end experience and the view from the window on the Shap/Ais Gill journeys is something else. After all it's pretty good in a BR Mark 1! The fact that steam is at the front on some journeys is also a bonus. I'm not surprised that Belmond is looking to try and improve the vista for its own customers and there's no doubt that it will have to work hard to find something good out of Victoria in densely populated Southern England. So it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I was a mile or so away at Oldfield Park to watch Clan Line pass. I was amazed to see and hear the loco work so hard from a standing start hauling 13 coaches plus a diesel.
The class 67 was just ticking over adding nothing to the proceedings. Well done to the loco crews, it must have been very warm on the footplate today. <BJ>

The diesel is only there because the generator car is still not back, just an extra 80 tons to pull. I’m on the Exeter trip so looking forward to it going up Honiton.

In a way it's lucky that there are not four miles of 1 in 75 to contend with as whilst I'm sure that the loco could handle it we are talking about a high speed line, the same as the WCML/Shap, and there is a path to keep to.

I see they got away on time from Bristol so it looks as if using Bristol East Yard rather than Barton Hill has worked. It was a right pigs ear getting the train split and remarshalled last time now the TM layout has lost a lot of flexibility.

I saw Clan Line pass Chippenham, after a 3L dep from Bath. It passed RT through Chippenham, looked magnificent and was not hanging around. The 67 on the back was just idling. The train arrived and left Swindon RT. Oddly it went ahead of 1700 BTM to Padd from Swindon which wasn’t in the plan. Thereafter the special lost some time.

EDIT - It’s Bristol East Depot not Bristol East Yard - bit of Bristol railway pedantry.

    My shot below.

Back 15 late. Looking at progress on Open Time Maps it may have been wrongly Signalled down the main instead of into the loop at Steventon. It was held at the Junction for sometime with the route set for the main.

A touch of "It must be true, it was in the papers"
This weeks prize for inaccurate reporting goes to - 35028 and Belmond Pullmans visiting Bath

( But at least it's a good picture of the correct loco and stock.)

As we know, the train was routed via Staines, Reading Swindon and Chippenham in both directions…..

Just one question, how did the paper get the idea of the tour running via the B&H?

    Cheers, Neil

Have had to rethink plan to photograph the return run.
Philip Space and Polly Filla have been cutting and pasting old information for Somerset Live after a very enjoyable liquid lunch.

The Bristol Post reporter thinks that Clan Line is an iconic British Pullman locomotive.

My photos of the British Pullman locomotive are below.

Fair point but the last time I was there a few weeks ago it looked to me like a piece of waste ground with a few sidings. After our train and the water tanker had gone I imagine that it returned to its sleepy state! :)
