Some interesting photos of NG15 No.134's boiler (under repair at Loughborough IIRC). The caption for the last image, the new front tube plate, drops a pretty strong hint just how heavy the repairs are ..... and gives some context to comments that No.133's current boiler needs replacing:

I had a fantastic round trip yesterday between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Tan Y Bwlch, hauled by Prince and Blanche double-headed. I didn't realise this until I arrived, but yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the first passenger train to Blaenau Ffestiniog, and Prince was bearing the original headboard used on that day. Yesterday's trip was a charter organised by Statesman Rail.

I was racking my brains on the way home trying to think of any other standard gauge/narrow gauge joint railway station in the UK. I believe Blaenau Ffestiniog is the only one. Does anyone know otherwise?

Anyway, my thanks to the Railway for yesterday's trip. I am certainly planning to visit again and spend more time there, rather than just a couple of hours.

The VOR have moved their station (not far but enough to not count as the same station)

SG & Miniature stations at Fairbourne are mighty close and Barnstaple will be (dammit!).
Do SG & NG at Aberystwyth still count as one station?

They have, but I would say it depends on whether you have to go through the same entrance to get in, or out of one, down the road, and in the other. Which I don't know, not having been there since about 30 years ago (when it was definitely a joint station!).

How will Barnstaple fit the criteria Howard? As far as I'm aware the L&B plan to terminate at Pilton.

Wot? Yer brain edit out the (Dammit!) ? Next you'll ne claiming not to have heard about the Porlock extension. ;)

So far as any stated (or vaguely sensible) aim goes, you are of course perfectly correct ...

I think even if the L&B did manage to get back to Barnstaple Town, they might find flotation devices were required to share a station with the mainline company …

Amongst many other places. The long term projections for the Somerset Levels are none too comforting either. Unless something happens (or doesn't!) fair bit of East Anglia has to be at risk of following Doggerland under the North Sea ferry routes.

Look on the bright side, for us it will be a short drive to Warminster to get the ferry to whats left of The Isle of Wight

There's another one a mere 11 odd miles away by rail at Minffordd (where you access the SG station via the NG platform so I don't think anyone can deny it, despite the level difference)

Trouble is, I'll have to get that ferry from the balcony of the flat upstairs! :(

It's a bit weird along the A259. If anything, the road is closer to sea level here (Hove) than the other side of the Adur, yet I've never seen shingle washed onto the road here, whilst a few times, by Mewsbrook Park, in Lancing I've seen the traffic lights rising from a shingle beach where the road ought to be!

I know at one point BR tickets could be bought from the FR, as an "official agent". As my very first journey on the FfR involved the CCL from Barmouth and a change at Minffordd, I'm astounded I managed to omit it from my list!

In all honesty, a bit early this, but might I use a shameless plug to draw the attention of honourable members to arrangements at Chirk?

Or you could go to Southport where the sea has retreated into the far distance.
