One would be very hesitant to call any home buyer stupid, particularly in the case of being in the vicinity of HR that have no functionality per se but exist as tourist attractions.
it would be particularly pleasing to see just ONE HR operate a battery electric unit to illustrate to JQP the changes that are possible.locally and nationally
More roads,More motor vehicles is obviously not the answer (Air pollution in BCP)

It's usually the pickle in the nothingburger that upsets people.

I don't see the problem here. 257 is simply telling us that there's no new Pope....

Even with "due diligence" of getting searches there is no guarantee. We live two miles from Southampton Airport and about half a mile from the centreline of the glidepath, about the same distance from the M3 and about a quarter of a mile from the South Western Mainline. The searches showed up the railway and airport but not the motorway. Guess what we hear as a never ending "white noise". The aircraft are occasional and it's nice to hear the railway when there is an easterly wind.

Searches are worthwhile but a bit of personal research is also needed. ( We both went to college in Eastleigh and I worked there on and off for a few years so we were fully aware of the airport.)

    Cheers, Neil

Sorry but you will see very few if any masks in this country these days, medical situations excepted.
I get some really weird looks when I still wear one in Station Road having come out of Boots chemist.

Surely due diligence involves more than just the official searches though - like looking at a map, going to look round the area, etc. Things like proximity to motorway, railway etc are aspects you'd want to be aware of before even going for a viewing, let alone putting in an offer.

Near a pub is a no-no, whether it goes from near silent to the chucking out time choir, or is one of those less salubrious establishments featuring unscheduled al fresco bouts of bare knuckle boxing. The peel of bells on a parish church might sound lovely on an episode of Midsommer, but is a pain in the posterior when trying to enjoy a first lie-in for months and don't get me started on pre-school nurseries, or more specifically, dropping off and picking up time at same.

There's an eminently restorable ruin, amongst the undergrowth immediately north of the VoR, more or less opposite the water tank at Devil's Bridge. That'd tick pretty much all my boxes! :)

Why, oh why do heritage railways have to be run by CEOs these days? What is wrong with the traditional title of General Manager? It was a good enough title for Sir Eustace Missenden whose SR was a far bigger entity than the SR that is currently advertising. After all the whole point of heritage railways is to preserve the traditional ways of operating, so lets keep to traditional titles as well.

Peter, in grumpy old man mood:(

Amazing how people are even complaining about the CEO name in a job advert. The Swanage Railway, through virtually no fault of its own has become National Preservation's new punch bag.
Saying that it forms no transport role when its 500 space park and ride spends its summers full is yet more obvious BS spitted out by people who care little and would rather run the place down that be inspired by it and what it has achieved.
    Shame on you lot.

I agree titles do not really mean much Peter, but in my former work world a GM reported to a Director who reported to a CEO. I have not yet read the JD, if one has been issued, but the title may well attract interest from those used to functioning at that level elsewhere.

Far more interested watching the train being washed, (Never seen any footage of the CWM in action) then how much smoke or steam 34072 was emitting.

On Saturday, The only time I noticed 34072 make any smoke was prior to the 1330 departure when some firing was done as 34072 had spent an hour in Swanage station and was obviously being "Kept quiet"
Solution: 1 If the local residents complain, send the loco to shed, the neighbours there NEVER complain.
Solution 2 If it just the usual Nat Pres gang of keyboard warriors moaning. TAKE NO ACTION!

Now is the time for our Canadian correspondent to put his (many, many, many) words into action. Or is it a case of preferring to complain from the sidelines?

I did notice the neighbours to the shed are a cemetery and a cruelly placed retirement community.

Wow. The finances must have turned around since they made 8 staff redundant 18 months or so ago.

Presumably within this persons targets will be a) getting the Wareham trial service run b) completing the carriage shed c) getting access to the Furzebrook sidings ?
