I meant this picture.

Lovely to see that the GWR yard lamp ( this one from a car park in Dumbleton) is being used for atmospheric photographs.

A third in the yard has just had its top fitted, I heard yesterday. It has a replica platform and ladder ( formerly in a garden in Frome)

I have my eye on another candidate...

 

Superb day today, an excellent array of locomotives and everything seemed to be running well. The Sentinel was great to watch at Winchcombe, a really unusual loco to see. Thank you to everyone involved, hope the rest of the weekend goes well.

 

Looking forward to going tomorrow. Does anyone know if the Flag and Whistle is doing breakfasts (as usual I think!) and what time they open?

Really enjoyable first visit to the railway for me today.

Glad I paid the extra £10 to do one of the Break van rides (Toddington - Broadway & return)

Staff I spoke to all very helpful & friendly & the trains clean and tidy.

I hope the event pays off for those involved with organising it.

Certainly open for breakfast, can't quite recall opening times I'm afraid.

 

A GWR freight train made its first ever appearance at Broadway GWSR today.



It greeted onlookers with a two whistle rendition of 'On Ilkley Moor baht at' !
The driver was a former Honeybourne banker fireman.

This is the sort of thing that made our GWSR gala a great one. Two more days remain - come and see for yourself!

 

A big thank you to those involved in planning and running this event at G&WR - I thoroughly enjoyed my day out yesterday. It was refreshing to have access to the three GWR 280's inside the shed and to see the great progress they're making with 2807, 2874 & 3850, the latter inclusive of newly cast cylinder and smokebox seat - a task not to be underestimated!
Add to that double head Bulleid's - a real treat for me I have to say.

 

Running about 50 mins late mid-afternoon with trains out of sequence.

 

You must be unlucky on your train then, most things seem about 30 down. Having to work by pilotman between Winchcombe and Gotherington is the main cause of delay.

 

Wondered what was up, thanks for the explanation. Currently sat on the 15.33 ex-Cheltenham, whistling off at 16.00 after arrival of 35006. Still having a great day!

 

Decent day today, although the timetable went to pot. Plenty of staff, but not one seemed to know what was going on when faced with difficult questions like “when’s the next train?’ ! The bus link to Cheltenham Spa was a bit of white-knuckle ride with an enthusiastic driver, but the late running on the railway meant the end of day connections were actually better for us. A highlight was Gotherington, where my kids (4 & 7) were allowed to operate the pump trolley.

 

Also really enjoyed my visit today.
The late running didn't really cause me a problem, and the highlight was definitely the brake van ride back to Cheltenham. I'm glad the weather had improved by that point though!

 

This event was an absolute jaw-dropper!
Been 3 years since I last visited and boy, I was SO glad I decided to visit the railway (after changing my mind 3 times).
My FIRST EVER brakevan ride/goods run on the railway, hauled by 41312.
Lots of video opportunities including 34028/35006 double-header, Joyce at Winchcombe and Black Prince on the Pines.
Great to see old favourites such as 4270 and 46521.
Over all a fantastic event, a much needed change from the usual endeavours.
