I see no-one thought to pack the axleboxes to protect the springs when it was unloaded. Who did the haulage?

Wow a 6100 plate rather than that silly smoekbox namplate, quite a pleasing apperance now in comparison to what was originally imagined.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

The point is that 76079 has already slung the mud. Some of us, including those who did or are close to the work at Southall, would genuinely like to know what were the problems found - nothing to do with gratification at all. And some detail could hardly aggravate the current position: he's said - although maybe not overtly - that it's been a rubbish job - and so by implication the Southall team already have egg on their faces.

I suspect 76079 thinks he's already abused his position. Pity he was so intemperate; we could have learned something useful.

Nice to see the photos of 6100 at Crewe. Why the mud slinging? Well done to all involved. =D>

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Actually, it's a credit to Crewe that they were able to get on with the job and turn out the result in the picture. Fast work - faster than average progress at Southall...

If the state of 6100 were so bad when it arived, would Crewe have been able to turn it out so quickly? Mind you, the real test is how many and how major are the faults that arise with operation (there are bound to be some).

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, whatever the state of the engine and the engineering a substantial period of running in will now have to follow before it goes anywhere near the mainline. I wonder if this might be at a preserved railway and not simply up and down the crewe site to help off set some of the costs of overhaul?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

If they are wise, it will be stripped down and sorted out before it does any proper running. At Crewe they are as smart as anyone. So don't expect to be hauled by 6100 in a passenger train anywhere for a while yet.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Bongo that sounds very serious. It dont sound promising for the WSR gala in that case. How much do you think needs to be stripped down to have 6100 running properly? ie pistons out, rods off, or even boiler out or lifted off wheels etc

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

A report on swgen at 15:46 says .....

"Kettle 6100 on Allelys low loader, with what appears low loader tyres on fire, M5 southbound Jnc 21-22 Sedgemoor Services entrance"

    Edit:

    Another report....

"I passed 6100 Royal Scot on a low loader at the approach to Sedgemoor Services Southbound on the M5 at 15:45. Two Fire engines in attendance, inside lane coned off and numerous hi-vis's scurrying about. Prime mover for low loader not attached."

People say that 4472 is cursed! 6100 doesn't seem to be having much luck yet. It doesn't rain but it pours. After the work to get her ready for the WSR this happens. #-o

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Sounds more like a problem with the low loader. Not the end of the world, just means that 6100 is less likely to be on show at the WSR this weekend.

    Regards,

    Dan

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Whats the point of her on a low loader going to the West Somerset if there isn't a reasonable chance of her pulling a train or two! If it has moved up and down at Crewe it can't be all that bad can it?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

I don't know exactly, and I'm not going to guess. From what I do know though, they will at least have to have the wheels out. There is also a problem with one of the stretchers between the frames. (These are known problems from months ago i.e. long before it left Southall).

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Things can be acceptable (though admittedly far from ideal) for running at 25MPH on a light load but totally unacceptable for 75MPH on a heavy load.

Exactly my point. Bongo makes it sound like it won't run at all, or thats my interpretation anyway.
