And what a fantastically noisey beast it is too! Good to hear it working hard away from the Didcot running line. Had a brief trip behind the 'Purple Train', but it was packed to the rafters, couldn't even get close for a decent photo. Sadly possibly my last run behind 2857 for a good while, as well as catching Ark Royal (note the specially made carriage running boards in image - nice touch). Also got lucky with the Lancaster at Arley (cropped phone image shows how low it was).
The finale was a raucous assault of Eardington behind Western Queen - very appropriate!
All the steam trains were very well loaded, the diesels less so, but good to see the Valley busy.

    Neil,

I cannot thank you enough for mentioning the carriage destination boards. It was a little project we in the C&W wanted to do. I am cooking up some other ideas to restore our whole fleet with appropriate destination and end boards.

Had a fantastic day yesterday (Friday) at this event, spirited runs behind the Saint and Western. Steam sets were busy, diesels less so but the railway put on a good show and seemed to have great take up by the general public.

It had to set back and have a run up Highley bank.

3 good to great days passenger numbers wise. Well, Sunday was always going to be light with a poor forecast, poor weather first thing, and people back in work and school the next day.

Fantastic figures reported for the Jubilee event in latest SVR Branchlines newsletter. 4000 visitors, 71% of people surveyed had come to see the purple loco, 41% being first time visitors. Bravo SVR for trying something different.

It should be noted that most of that was Thursday to Friday.
