Saphos Trains

May be of interest to some; tonight’s ‘Worlds Most Scenic Railway Journeys’, presented by Bill Nighy and aired on Channel 5 at 8pm, features the Saphos ‘White Rose’ trip.

 

According to my TV’s programme guide, the train is hauled by the Royal Scott.

 

Britannia racing south down the WCML away from Colwich junction towards Rugeley Trent Valley, near the village of Colton, on the early stages of its journey. As said upthread, dull conditions for its passing but the sun managed to burn through the clouds shortly after commencing the drive home.

 

Relatively sunny at Ashford on the later part of its journey, and a cheery whistle to boot.

 

The Brit in fine form today, missed this mighty machine! Seen at Wraysbury, crossing the Thames at Imperial Wharf, and Datchet.

 

Interesting the LSL RMB has now made it into the Saphos rake. Maybe we aren't far away from a full Mk1 rake?

 

I thought some of the footplate sequences were not on 46100 and when did it acquire a chime whistle?

 

Auto correct!

 

They did that on the episode I was on as they changed the Stanier whistle to the flying Scotsman one and it hadn’t even whistled

 

His Facebook post reckons they needed his advice re information on 46100 otherwise possible complaints from joe public .

 

Yeah right.

 

Always good to see steam on TV, and it's good publicity for Saphos but I do find the scripts on the Bill Nighy programmes grating , as if made in a US-TV style. Too many "one of the most ....... in the world" etc.

I also understand the fascination with people enjoying Pullman dining, but there are only so many times I can watch coffee being poured in one programme,

If it wasn’t Saphos or Jeremy Hosking many of these issues wouldn’t have been raised.

 

I have not seen the programme yet, but the comments seem to have given me deja vu from the ones about the NB episode in the previous series. So not sure it is related to a specific TOC or tour company, just the one at that time.
