Thanks for the reply. It sounds bad then - will running her on the WSR cause more problems?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

What a totally fascinating thread. I don't ususally look in this section but the link from the locked thread in steam traction got me here. Two points to add:

    1) Nobody has mentioned the photo that briefly appeared and was then pulled ages ago of the welded repairs to the main steam pipe that looked like a first attempt at holding a MIG welder for someone. If that didn't sow the seeds of doubt in anyones mind who saw it then I don't know what would. Lets hope that was a bad bit and not indicative of what the rest of it is like. from Reading this thread I think it it could be time to worry... I guess the real acid test will be a) How much rectification work it needs before running properly b) How it performs on the mainline and for how long, and c) Who overhauls it next time round and what will they find.

    2) Mr (or Mrs) Bongo postings are about as interesting and technically informative as anyone's are on this forum. Whilst I don't him (or her)from Adam I always make a point of reading his posts when I see it as it always seems to be worth reading. Not always the nicest of posts and sometimes fairly scathing but usually bob on the money. If he doesn't know what he is talking about he sure talks a good job! There are two many armchair warriors, dreamers and know-nothing but like to tell the world types who don't like to be told their latest scheme or way of thinking is plain daft. Its good someone has the balls to tell them straight.

May be a tad naive.. Can't locos that aren't Main Line registered be towed on Main Line? Example: 46229 and NRM's western to Crewe..

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

They would really need to be in steam to ensure that lubricators worked and then the crews and path would have to be paid for. It's just cheaper and easier to go by road.. Anyway Royal Scot is not main line registered yet.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this loco in action. I've only ever seen in stuck in the sheds at Bressingham.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Some of Firebox Chaser's photos on the WSR Gala thread show some of the damage to 6100. There is burnt paintwork and soot around the front end, plus the hoses have been removed. Worryingly, one of the brake pipe cocks (handle just visible here)has melted, so the fire must've been fairly intense. There was a fair amount of soot around the front fireman's side bogie wheel, so could there be damage to the axle box as well? Hopefully when it's inspected during the week it'll turn out to be ok.

Best of luck to all those involved with getting 6100 active again. Speculation about fitness to run notwithstanding 6100 looks very smart. By way of trivial pursuit does anyone agree that BR maroon (as applied latterly to some pacifics on the LMR) would look rather attractive and maybe more suitable as a non authentic livery on this 1950 rebuilt Scot?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

Never in my life time did I think I would see both scots in action have just seen 46115 this weekend and she looks superb in green. As for Royal Scot well I had many rides as a child on her footplate at Bressingham whilst some people may not agree I think she looks fantastic in LMS Crimson and now they have put her smoke deflectors back on she is exactly as I remember her. Well done I look forward to seeing her out and about on her travels.

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

    Update from WSR.org

An update on Royal Scot Royal Scot has been in steam on Tuesday 24 March and after testing around the station site it is planned to work light engine to Minehead later. Once at Minehead, LNWR staff from Crewe will inspect the locomotive with the intention of a loaded test run to Williton on Wednesday 25th March 2009. An update will be issued on the official WSR website on Thursday 26 March at noon with more details as for its use during the weekend.

    Sounds promising [-o<

Any news on if they're going to put the LMS logo on the tender for the weekend if she does run?

Re: 6100 Royal Scot test runs

I would highly doubt it (though not impossible) and in the grand scheme of things having LMS on the tender is way down the list of jobs to complete. Knowing Len Clarke they arent transfers and there just simply hasnt been time to complete the whole paint job i dont think its even been varnished yet. I would think that something like that will be completed when it returns to Crewe after the WSR.

Lets just keep our fingers crossed that nothing crops up during testing in the next couple of days, good luck to Steve and the lads
