SWT used to sell MHR tickets at Alton from their Ticket Office. The GM some years ago objected to the percentage that they took and the deal ended.

AIUI 9% is the current rate for booking office and TVM sales for a third party.

Was that not just an MHR ticket rather than a combined one from say Woking through on to the MHR?

Oh dear, it was so long ago! I know the Alton ticket office used to sell our tickets, but the mists of time, &c., I'm afraid.

At Alton the MHR has its own platform and tickets are now sold through the platform shop. Adult tickets used to be £16 in 2018, but have shot up to £24. But booking online is reduced to a more reasonable £20, so the MHR is discouraging buying tickets from the shop.

At Wareham the SR will not have its own platform. In 2017 there was a temp ticket office to buy an Adult £15 return to Swanage (change at Norden for the steam train).
Presumably in 2023 online ticket sales will be encouraged, there might be a SR stall/shop/helpdesk on the current down Wareham platform with the ability to sell tickets for the few who can't use online sales?.

So far the SR online or ticket office prices are the same (£17 Norden to Swanage return) the cost for Wareham to Swanage return will be a bit more (TBC), but like the MHR could add more if not brought online in advance.

So the single 121 refurbished railcar should be easier to get mainline approved, than the 3 coach 117, for testing into Wareham later this year?
But the design of the 117, which has been in use this week Norden to Swanage, is similar so there should not to much of a problem getting it mainline approved.

Although that temporary ticket office (tto) still exists, and has been re-purposed for other things this year, it cannot now use the (two?) car park spaces it occupied in 2017.
I'm not sure if anyone has measured the height, to see if the 'tto' would fit under Wareham station platform canopy, but my feeling is it wouldn't.
Also, Wareham's Platform 2 is not that wide so unsure if it would become a Health & Safety risk by reducing the useable platform width.
Incidentally, it cannot get on to Platform 1 [London bound] as there is only a passengers footpath between the footbridge and boundary fence. In addition most of the 2017 services used Platform 2 from/to Swanage.
I would have thought it very likely that SR would encourage most passengers to use on-line booking.
On-train ticket issuing, as has been mentioned earlier, would be limited due to contactless payments failing due to several mobile phone black spots along the branch.
Also, if trains become as busy as some people seem to expect on here, ticket inspectors would have their work cut out to get through crowded trains in the time available.
So far as I recall, SR does not have unlimited numbers of volunteer TTI's available to check tickets let alone issue them on such a (comparably) short journey time.

Seeing as GBR does not exist yet I would love to know how they have been able to sell a ticket

GBR needs legislation to be passed by the Houses of Parliament before any such organisation can have ANY role in the railway system, but what with all the other legislative priorities the Government has at the moment, the hot money is it not happening till 2024 - except that brings us to General Election territory...

In the DfT the concept of GBR has already begun
    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/sunbelievable-enough-tickets-sold-in-rail-sale-to-reach-the-sun
"Runaway success Great British Rail Sale sees more than 128 million miles of discounted journeys travelled on UK railways this spring"
I expect highly paid consultants are working on the rest of the GBR plans!!, they are attending conferences such as Accelerate: Rail 2022 and saying how they will boost rail use. (Which if it works with increased leisure use might help Project Wareham?)

DfT spin is not the same as fact!

All that has actually happened is Government run marketing organisation has sold a loaf of tickets they have bought from TOCs and are pretending it’s something new.

In other words GBR had about as much relevance to the running of the UKs railways as “The Trainline” ticket booking site has.

Only when time can be found to pass legislation at Westminster will GBR actually start to have a formal role in railway matters.

Note, there is president for this - New Labours ‘Strategic Rail Authority’ spent the first year or so of its life as a ‘shadow’ organisation with no powers because, as with GBR, legislation had to be put through Parliament to put it on a proper legal footing.

Oh dear, We seem to be wandering way off topic here, I am sure that the Swanage Railway management have given much thought as to how they will go about collecting revenue and selling tickets to/from Wareham!
There is no point in speculating, until the Wareham service is up and running.

So much circumlocution about locomotion. As a turista i would like to know
    1. if there will be ANY service running to Wareham on the National network in this summer of industrial action!
2 So having postponed the trip i return in 2023 the season of the great awakening, with sore knees and luggage only to find
    3. A faction of railwayacs that wants to turf me off the train from Wareham at Corfe Castle in order to get to Swanage. One would hope that Rerpresentatives of Disabled persons have something to say about that!
...as the Everly Bros put it "Problems,Problems, Problems all day long!

Surely the spirit of Project Wareham is to provide safe, reliable and direct transport from the Junction to the Terminus? The Victorians and the SRP had that figured out. Only in the Alice in Wonderland thinking of "Heritage" Railways would any thought be given to that not being the case.

So you have had multiple explanations for points 2&3, which you choose to deride.

As for 1, that would depend on what industrial action is being taken, and by whom. Network Rail own the infrastructure at Worgret and on to Wareham, and if the NR signallers (for Poole-Wool, based in Basingstoke, with other boxes controlling east of Poole) are striking, nothing will move at Wareham.

According to Paul Clifton on the local news at lunchtime only part of the SWR network with trains during the strike will be Southampton to Waterloo. Timetable still being "tweaked" so may not be that many I suspect.

Whilst not referred to specifically oliversbest does have a point about disabled persons. Placing those in wheelchairs in the luggage compartment of the guards van on the steam hauled service trains does not deliver the level of experience which those customers have a right to expect. Whatever happened to the coach which was converted at great expense for wheelchair bounded customers to use?

Reference Post #1475 "I am going BA to Heathrow and then NE to Parkstone (Lilliput) where my kindly airbnb host is picking me up"

Why have you cancelled your flight from (Toronto?) Canada to the UK in August, National express LHR to Poole and B&B accomodation, at this late stage? That will be very expensive!
So if you as you say have rescheduled your trip to 2023, How do you know that you are going to be "turfed" off the DMMU at Corfe Castle? I certainly have not seen any proposed Timetables so far. Even if for any reason
You were required to change trains, Platforms, there are staff that can assist you.
My friend, also a brit ex pat (Has Dual Canadian UK nationality) booked a holiday to UK in 2021 which had to be postponed until June 2022, as a matter of fact he landed at Heathrow around three hours ago and will be staying with relatives and latter this month with me.and yes, he will be visiting the Swanage Rly.
