I think it was to help the MRC get off the ground.

Because it was Derby Corporation that started the project with the volunteers taking over when the County Council and Derby Corporation had to withdraw from the scheme because of lack of funds.

As the Butterley 3F tanks got a mention, I thought that these rather poor images may amuse y'all. Derby Locomotive Works (always known as 'The Midland'). 5690 in the background, but I don't know which 3F is shown. Bit of double exposure on the overhead shot. The gent in the suit was my guide for a visit organised by my granny, through a retired draughtsman in her church. (It ain't what you know . . .)

    September 1973, from memory.
As I walked back across the footbridge over the main line guess what was running underneath? That should date it it exactly, to someone in the know.

(P.S. Apologies for the OT, but these have lurked unseen for too long!)

So that must be (4)5690 Leander top left in the Works? Or is it (4)5593 Kolhapur? Excellent photos!

Is it known where 47298's future home will be? Or is it staying at the ELR?

I’m awaiting the change of livery and test run to Hellifeld before we get a confirmation of ownership ;)
In all seriousness It’s a bit of a mystery, from what I recall about 10 years ago it was sold in working order to someone ion here who has a penchant for things in LNWR lined black and rumour has since been sold on to someone else, a lot of speculation is it’s a Mr Smith.

Yeah i had heard that same rumour about Mr Smith buying the loco. If that was true then from reading an article about when he was asked if he had purchased 4920, which he denied, he did say he was looking for a loco that could go to Aysgarth Falls station. Adding 1 +1 and getting 5, could this or the Wensleydale be a possible location for the jinty?

If there’s any truth in these rumours, I think Rather than carry on the froth on here regarding 47298’s future ownership or location, shall we just pre empt things by not giving a toss, not caring where it’s going or what livery etc it’s going to carry. In fact let’s do a West Coast on West Coast,
To 47298’s new owners, if you’ve any news please let us know and we’ll let you know when we’re ready to hear it thankyou very much. ;)

Was it just lack of spondulicks? Didn't Ted 'Grocer' Heath's destruction of Local Government in 1974 have a part to play?
