Are there any plans to restore Tamworth Castle back to working order? I would have thought that would be a quick restoration because it is all complete.

Had a look at the new track they are laying on the extension and i notice they are laying the sleepers right on the edge of the embankment slope in what would once have been the cess when there is acres of space on the 6' side. I really think they should have somebody supervising the work that knows something about pway and track work, as soon as they try to build a ballast shoulder all the stone is going to fall down the bank. Do they not know what a cess is?

Complete, apart from the much publicised visit of the copper fairies around 2012(?). It's on the list, but as D8057 is already in bits and there only being about half a dozen volunteers (most of whom have other duties around the railway, plus a home life) there is only so much they can achieve. Once the 20 is sorted then I suspect TC will come to the fore.
Thanks for the (lack of) support (once more). Whilst there you'll have seen the permissive path that has been installed, which never was there originally. This crosses over the chord, and to improve sighting the new chord has been built wider than original to cater for the such. All work done as per the PWI designs - as mentioned previously. If you have such an issue with their standards, I'm sure they'll be receptive to your better judgement.

I was not referring to the chord, i was talking about the double trackbed south of where the points are going to go, there is acres and acres of space and yet they have put the ends of the sleepers right up to the top of the embankment slope - this is total stupidity. Since you mention the chord itself: trains will in all probability ability be doing no more than 10 or 15mph approaching that foot crossing which will in any event have the obligatory whistle boards set well back leaving nobody in any doubt there is a train coming and yet the new line is being laid well away from the original double track formation in a very deep trench - see photo below. There IMG_2648 2.jpeg is no way the person in charge of that work has any pway knowledge.

I'm curious as to your motives @Martin Adalar as the posts smack of a rather large dose of sour grapes and also your experience and qualifications to make such judgments

I'm also curious as to whether you are trespassing on an active construction site to secure the images and have taken the liberty of ensuring the CVR have copies of the posts so should they wish to bring any action they have evidence before you delete it

I'd also like to know a bit more about the qualifications and experience of Mr Adalar, if that is indeed his name. I wonder if this might be the third coming of someone with the intials MA, aka Clog and Knocker.

On the other hand, I can honestly say that if he is such an expert in PWay matters then he would be most welcome to join the PWay gang at CVR.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the brand new public footpath crosses this worksite you mention. I have no sour grapes and indeed I support the short extension to Barnfields but I will call out poor work whenever I see it; this seems be a problem for you as you do not want to listen to any constructive criticism.

The balance of your comments undermines the credibility of that statement.

If i was against the project then believe me i would say so; i do not understand this suggestion that i have sour grapes. Can you explain why you think i should have such an attitude?

Can we please stop arguing about Mr A's motives and instead can someone from the CVR please respond to the substance of his assertion that the track is poorly positioned? Is it closer to the edge of the embankment than might be expected, and if so why is that OK?

And possibly as well, are those sleepers actually in their final position? It's easy to jump to the wrong conclusions if something is still a work in progress...
For myself, I generally work on the basis that the people working on a line such as the CVR actually have a plan and know what they're doing, and look forward to the finished article.

There is no public footpath being created - a permissive path has been made and will be available to use once it is formally completed (prior to the completion of the track, as per the planning authority). I’d say it’s wise to read up on the difference.

Sleepers are being positioned in accordance to the pipeline that runs underneath the former trackbed, though as yet they have not formally been installed in their final position (that I’m aware of). This will be done once the rails are onsite, of which atm I haven’t seen a date for.

Keep on wibbling, it entertains during lunch break.

Avoiding the sewer pipe under the former track makes perfect sense. It would be handy to have a point where the toilet tanks could be emptied direct

Exactly but without the problems of getting an overflow if the scoop was left down too long.

The Severn Trent sewer will have an easement under the Water Industry Act of a minimum of 3m either side of the centre line of the pipe (the exact width depends on the sewer diameter). Any works on or near the sewer will be subject to agreement with the water company. Diverting the sewer would have probably cost a six figure sum, so moving the track over is sensible!
