Taw Valley in her new colour on Saturday....

 

I think the thing bugs me the most about the new livery/identity is the smokebox number plate. The 70 just looks far too small. Yes it's the same size letter but it looks lost at the front.

 

I’ve said the same thing on another thread, have to agree it looks a little lost.

 

A Donald Duck face at the smokebox door might help a bit

That photo is just crying out for someone with photoshop skills to do a rendition of what No. 70 would look like in some other colour scheme - such as 1960s middle chrome green ...

Ruddy Hell Tom, you mean you’d like to see a recreation of the ‘Wilcocks wet dream’ period? Besides it wouldn’t look right with that stock anyway!

 

I see that 4930 Hagley Hall has been clocking up some miles over the SVR. Pictures now appearing on Instagram. Well done to all involved in getting her back in action.

I know good things come to those etc but it can't be far away from entering service now. Official launch at the ASG?

Only it's 2nd period in action after it's initial seven year stint following restoration from Barry condition. Reading between the lines, this sounds to have been a very involved exercise.

4930's light engine test runs have now reached all the way to Kidderminster!

 

2857 was the service engine today, seems appropriate to post a shot of the workhorse now nearing the end of her ticket, also out and about in todays lovely weather, 4930 'Hagley Hall' on test:

 

Have to say that bloke who used to work for Brintons hasn’t done a bad job has he?

 

The chimney looks odd. Can anyone explain?

 

No copper cap, no safety valve bonnet, no steam pipe covers, various other shiny bits missing.

 

Is the number plate a 'shiny bit'? The weird one is the GW shed allocation code, three fairly unobtrusive white letters immediately behind the front buffer beam, conspicuous by their absence on a GW liveried loco. KDR covered Kidderminster (and Cleobury).
