6896 has arrived at Sheffield Park it would appear... as has 30064 in readiness for onward travel to her new home/owner. The mystery still stands as to where she is off to...

Oh well, such is the price of Cromptons and 73s being so reliable they got pinched by lines away from their old stamping grounds!

Don’t know what you’re on about! For example, SR No. 1 could be A1 in which case it was an example of a class O1. Or it could be B1, in which case it was an I1. Or it could be E1 - but that was obviously a T1. On the Isle of Wight they did their own thing, so W1 was an E1. And of course Bulleid built C1, but that was a Q1, (but obviously not a Stirling Q1 - that would be silly).

What could be simpler than that?

The LMS didn't bother with classifications. A 3F could be a Jinty, or a Midland 0-6-0 goods, a class 4 could be a 2-6-4 tank or an Ivatt 2-6-0, and so on..

To add to the confusion, it wasn't unusual for numbering systems to be changed.

It wasn't that though, that would have given you 21C0001.
I wonder how Bulleid would have distinguished 2-6-0 and 0-6-2?

It seems that Stowe departed on one of the lorries bringing the Hall in, to a JM steam engineering firm for work on the cylinders.

The xxxx was purely for illustrative purposes (More GWR overthinking?)

    2-6-0 would be 20C
    0-6-2 would be 02C

As I said, It's obvious when You think about it, and probably better not to built 2-6-0's and 0-6-2's

Following the logic with the Pacific numbering, sort of. It's done by axles, not wheels. So 4-6-2 being 21C. But then the Q1s were 0-6-0s and were merely C. 2-6-0 should be 10C and 0-6-2 01C. Probably.
