Carriage sheds of old traditionally had slatted timber sides to allow flow of air. I believe condensation is still a problem with the NYMR’s shed. It’s been described to me as being out in the rain in a morning but I’ve not witnessed it myself.

The main problem with the 47 appears to be sorting out and certifying the braking system. It then need’s it Network Rail required kit updating. Not sure what else is outstanding.

The Air Vessels need recerting (which I understand require removal as part of the process), I believe there are a few volunteers working through the list of faults at the moment, I've seen videos of the PU running whilst at the carriage shed in the course of finding air leaks.

Read the comments from people who have made negative comments, I’m drawing a conclusion from them.

Mission Impossible 7 trailer released today. There are sequences filmed on the NYMR in the trailer. It also shows the loco plummeting off the bridge. I am a big fan of this franchise. Really looking forward to this:

Just noticed 825 tacked on the front of the 12:30 from Grosmont - possibly out on test after repairs/overhaul?

Post on the Grosmont MPD page on Facebook recently mentioned its Winter Maintenance had been completed and had passed a steam test so would imagine its a bit of running in before being back into full service.

"Summer comes earlier in the South" we know, but six days before the longest day is a late end to Winter, even for Yorkshire.:)

Still recovering from the Covid lockdowns I'm afraid, during which there was only 3-4 staff oin the shed at any one time. As such its a long game of catchup and tyre-turning!

We’re on holiday next week in North Yorkshire in a group of 7 and looking to do a day trip on the NYMR, thinking of doing the Moors Express, but I’ve been looking over the last few weeks it seems to mostly be diesel hauled. At about £180 for all of us that’s rather put the rest of the family off. Does anyone know if any days next week are scheduled to have a third steam loco running? Many thanks in advance!

Ground conditions over the last few weeks have been very dry and there have been several significant fires. For this reason steam loco haulage has been reduced to a minimum but, with only two operational diesel locos, hasn't been eliminated. This is due for review on Monday and may possibly change following recent rain (although not a lot of it.) However, there have also been problems with the steam loco fleet with just four locos currently operational out of a planned fleet of eight (65894 having recently gone to the KESR for the summer.) These are 825, 63395, 80136 and 92134 with 29, 926, 5428 and 76079 presently undergoing unplanned repairs although, hopefully, not for too much longer.

As a bit of an aside, what provision do railways have in place for fire fighting in drought?

I'm aware that the Dartmouth Railway have their own firefighting train- is this the case elsewhere- I'm sure that the Embsay railway have had the Fire service attend with their Argo-Cat a couple of times recently too.

There's been an article in the Beano recently - not sure if it is the last or current issue. Basically, a road vehicle with firefighting equipment follows train between Goathland and Levisham (where the bulk of fires occur) to extinguish any small fires before they have a chance to turn into large ones.

NELPG web site showing J27 stopped with broken firebox stays. Not sure whether this will preclude/delay holiday on K&ESR.

Might be wrong but I thought that stays were the issue with the loco earlier in the year, so could just be the website needs updating?
