If it is maroon you will inherit that immortal saying from "Steam Railway" - "The preservation was horrified that....."

Hmmm so we seem to have settled on red but is it ?..

    LMS Red
    BR Red
    NSR Red ?
    Furness Red ?
    An Industrial Operator's Red ?

maybe EWS or Deutsche Bahn red ?

I think this is going to be a bit of an entrance !

ADB968008: Keep up at the back there!

The chap from Peak Rail said "maroon", not "red", and respectfully there is a difference.

I suspect it will look rather good, even if non-authentic.

The fact that April the first is coming up has nothing to do with the fact that 48624 is slowly turning red.We have neither the time or the money to stage such a stunt. It's red and it is staying red!

Just to clarify things is it to be red or B.R. maroon or L.M.S. crimson lake and is it to be lined out?

Wouldn't that rather spoil the surprise and hence publicity value of the unveiling? Patience is a virtue.

Your friendly resident historical purist who likes his locos BR livery and grimy is back to add his two-pennorth to this thread...

LMS red didn't look right when Hornby put it on Black Fives in the '70s so I don't suppose it will on 48624! And it does sort of beg the question, what was this all about?

So, an inauthentic livery - that's OK. But having the wrong type of mechanical lubricator is a disaster in comparison? ](*,)

Either way it will be another 8F back in steam.

I just wonder about the wisdom of finishing the paintwork when you have a loco that as far as I know has not yet had a steam test as a complete locomotive.

I would want it out and about to see that it all works before I applied the final paint job, but, in fairness to the lads at Rowsley perhaps they are confident that it will work "straight out of the box".
