The new cylinders put on weight during lockdown and are presently too fat, once they have slimmed down again things can progress :Updated:

Of course that has delayed many things, but I thought there might have been some progress (as there has been with many other projects) and I was simply wondering what.

If you're on Facebook they do weekly updates which have shown the backhead being put back together slowly and painting has begun

'Nuff said! Some of us never have been, and with the way they've been carrying on more are likely to be leaving.

Was thinking about the king class. Can’t believe it has been 10 years since 6024 was on the mainline.

I have also been noticing some things with locomotive stabling that leads me to believe 6024 will be in a good position to do the English Riviera Express out of Taunton in coming years.

Having looked at some photos the 6024 group is making progress. This is a non conclusive post.

Photo on Facebook of the loco in steam at Minehead. A lot of parts still missing, but finally getting there at long last.

Extract from email sent to members yesterday: -
Thursday August 4th,the locomotive will be brought into steam to allow static testing of various items to be undertaken and for the safety valves to be set at 250psi. On Friday August 5th our insurers will attend to undertake their formal examination.

Would it confuse the non- GWR people who think that all GWR engines look the same ?

In fairness, The Kings were one of few GWR classes fitted with double chimneys...

Some might confuse it with a County I suppose, I for one didn't expect Didcot to have completed and hired out 1014 this soon... :D:rolleyes:

Suggests a degree of blindness by many then; the obvious difference being the outside springs on the front bogie which is unique to the Kings IIRC.

Has anyone got a link to the picture of it in steam? I can’t seem to find it!

... or just those who know they do?

To be fair, I've never mistaken a Night Owl for a Rheidol Tank.

I sometimes wonder if the reverse question should be asked - why were other company's previous designs so flawed that a clean sheet of paper was required every time? In truth though I'm not sure that, say Stanier/Ivatt/Riddles designs are any less homogenous.

Hmm Stanier 4-6-0's.... one (sorry forgot that a jubilee is actually a new loco not a reboilered Claughton)
    Ivatt 4-6-0's...... none
Riddles 4-6-0's.... two (but probably could have managed with one)
