We already knew the August trips were cancelled. Do you mean the September ones too?

If the September ones are off it probably means no further steam passed my house this year. The website is still displaying the September trips.

No Tornado Aberdonians this year. Sadly inevitable with the recent news. Testing will occur at the GCR. The trust are hoping to run to Aberdeen on the 27th April (Edinburgh) and 4th May (Glasgow). Let’s hope for better next year.

Todays letter from A1 Steam confirms no mainline running in 2022. Back in action in January - testing at Great Central.

That means it will have been a full year since it last ran when it next runs.

Still seems pretty quick for an overhaul these days.

Indeed. Scotsman being out of service for 10 years make me realise that big time as well as the King being out for 10 years as well although that should hopefully be back soon. Just frustrating that through no fault of the Trusts that it has dragged on for longer than hoped for and anticipated.

Of course, we need to allow for the best part of two lost years in time, plus two (and counting) in stabilising - never mind restoring - badly disrupted income streams.

Add in the pandemic as well as 2018 and you can see that the trust have had disruption for some time. Let’s hope 2023 onwards has a smooth path but as you say even if that is the case balancing the books will to put it mildly take time.

There’s now got a £650k Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme to service, though I don’t know what the terms are.

Should also point out aswell at the loss of earnings that SRPS Railtours will feel, a full summer/autumn season of stock hires cancelled at relatively short notice in the grand scheme of things.

Much will depend on our economy recovering at least as well as those where the normal supply of overseas visitors come from. TBH, right now I couldn't describe my own view as unduly optimistic. I hope I'm wrong, but my suspicion is our sector (along with tourism and hospitality generally) will be in survival mode for at least the next couple of years.

Can’t like this, it’s a good reminder of the secondary spend though and the knock on effects it has.

Tornado steamed for the first time. The A1 was the first new build steam locomotive to run on the national network since the 1960s, and has continued to make history since.

So far it's lasted longer than 8 of the original Peppercorn A1s.

So does this mean the Aberdonian's are off altogether? Is there no other suitable traction available to allow the trips to go ahead?

Can see that a substitute might be sort for a short notice cancellation. But otherwise since the amount of money that goes to Tornado is seriously diminished if Tornado doesnt run ...
