I think 2 years is far too ambitious. I think you're likely looking at some point between 2025 and 2030, depending on how fast the money comes in

For the first time in its preserved life ,wasn’t the money there on the day it was bought ,rather than the owner thinking about planting a money tree for the future ?
I would have imagined the aim would be to complete the restoration before the ticket on the owner’s other loco expires .

I think Ruddingtonrsh 56 was referring to the completion of the reunification project, which will be dependant on money raised.
Thornbury, on the other hand, is funded and depends upon labour availability I would think, but completion within two years from now is not unrealistic. Obviously it would have been sooner but for Covid.

As Phil has correctly deduced, I was referring to the reuinification, not Thornbury's restoration :)

Work on Thornbury continues to progress. The painted front driving wheels and crank axle look spectacular.

An item in the latest "Trackside" magazine states that "Thornbury" could be available for sale, together with the 9F 92214. Just when it looked like it was coming together....

Read the article earlier. It looks like the buyer will have to have very deep pockets as the ticket on the 9F runs out in two years so a major overhaul is looming. 7027 doesn't seem to have much luck at all. Could there be another two locos heading for the JH LSL fleet perhaps..... Who else could afford to buy both locomotives in the current financial situation?

Well I own 2 9Fs… albeit 76 times smaller and both from a certain company that had a Cease and Desist order from Studio Canal earlier this week…

The best thing is for no buyer to come forward then hopefully restoration of Thornbury castle will continue to make steady progress. The article basically just said they would consider any offers so not a definite for sale.

The 9f would probably be more appealing to a buyer anyway as it is already a runner and its sale might provide more money for the castles rebuild.

Not too much of a surprise given Mr. Gregory parted company with the railway quite acrimoniously in fact it has probably just been a matter of time.

He also has several Bulleid Pacifics. With the expansion that has been going on with the LSL operation at Crewe and taking 60007 under their wing I would expect that they want to build quite a fleet for future Main Line operations and loco hire.

Like everyone else, though, he's got a steadily growing overhaul queue building up! The 9F is not a main line loco either, and I think his existing Castle is in the overhaul queue! Doesn't make sense to me.

Given that Hosking has just bought a Charter Company and locomotive with it, I'd say he might not want to add more so soon after, especially of 2 classes he already owns examples of and has under overhaul in multiple locations.

While Hosking owns multiple Bulleid's, they seem to have dropped down the priority list as I don't think any work has been done on 35027 or 35022 since they arrived at Crewe, plus you have 4464 and 6960 waiting in the wings in Margate, on top of upcoming overhauls on 34046 and presumably 46100.

Interesting, will there be a hurried re-painting of a certain rake of stock at the GC?
