Out of interest is there more demand to be 'up front' when its steam hauled than diesel? I would guess that would be the pattern for the non enthusiast general visitor.

My sister and family (none of whom are enthusiasts) visited a few years ago at my suggestion and still complain to me that they ended up 'behind a smelly smoky blue thing' - they've not visited the NYMR since (note to self - dont take them up to the Severn Valley when they visit this weekend!!)

Considering there's supposed to be a reduced steam timetable and lack of steam due to the hot/dry conditions, I've been very surprised with the steam mileage that we've accrued. The 9F workings this week on the 14.30 have been at half measure due to its available output but still enjoyable. Today 825 took the 14.00 Whitby to Pickering, so definitely no half measures up the 1/49. They're going to need that 47 up and running for the three day hot spell next week as 9F has certainly bailed them out on the potential fire risk side.

825 took the 1400 Whitby-Pickering to Goathland where 37264 replaced it .825 now on last Whitby departure .
Next week 825 not available so 37403 on Whitby turn as 76079 repairs not successful.

Based on my observations at Swanage the most popular coaches are those nearest the entrance. Hence here that is the back two from both Swanage and Norden, which of course is counter intuitive to those of us on here.

There services are being advertised, and tickets are being sold for internal services from the booking offices eg 9.20 Pickering to Grosmont returning back on the internal 13.30 service. There have been quite a few passengers using these internal services today!

In terms of experience on the NYMR, there are many more hoops to jump through to run over N.R. Everything from having TPWS, GSMR, AWS and, perhaps OTMR, from which the NYMR is exempt, on the locos to not being in control of what you can do. Other TOC's will take precedence so you don't know if your train can run if their services are delayed and you won't know that when your train leaves Swanage, only when it gets to the signals at Worgret junction. I've said before that a points failure at Waterloo can affect the departure of a train from Swanage. The NYMR have certainly had instances of a points failure at Manchester Piccadilly upsetting the NYMR's timetable on more than one occasion. The locos that you can use are limited so there is no flexibility in the loco roster. It is similar with footplate crews and guards as they have to be qualified in N.R. rules and have the necessary route knowledge. It is unlikely that all your footplate crew will have the necessary competence, which can make rostering a struggle. The railway may already have a Control but it will need stepping up a gear to meet what will be required. You'll need to have arrangements with local coach companies to be able to provide a replacement bus service at short notice when necessary to get people to and from Wareham.
    I could go on.

What is interesting is that the loco roster shows more trains than the actual timetable.

    0915 Grosmont-Whitby, 1235 Whitby-Grosmont, 1230 Grosmont-Pickering/1400 Pickering-Grosmont (Moorlander)

Assume nobody attempts to ride these trains.

    37264 failed last night apparently.

Edit - main generator flashover according to WNXXForum, so that's game over for a while. At least the 47 is nearly ready for traffic.

The Railway seems to be having a really tough time of it with its loco fleet at the moment and the Firecon status isn't helping.

Not sure that’s correct ,looked more like TM Pickering end bogie .
Believe only one driver currently signs 47…and he’s sometimes employed elsewhere .

Rain at Grosmont (webcam), probably not enough to make a difference to firecon state.

61264 was apparently dragged to New Bridge today for onward movement. Assume for overhaul elsewhere, but will it return?
