There would be a risk of explosion only with a seriously incompetent crew. Therefore that newpaper report implies that the crew were seriously incompetent. Could that be considered a libel, or is a statement libellous only if it identifies someone by name? Anyway it is a blatant falsehood and a potentially damaging criticism of WCRC and steam operations in general.

From the fire service incident log:

    https://www.northyorksfire.gov.uk/incident/2022-07-12-incident-summary-day-shift-12th-july/
I suspect the media have quoted from this log.

And the purpose of fusible plugs would be lost to backwoods newspaper reporters.

I think that's rather unfair, in journalistic circles I suspect that the purpose of fusible plugs would be lost on reporters little further than Steam Railway.

Which indicates a laziness on the reporter's part for not identifying the facts rather than report the rumours emanating from poor knowledge of the facts - facts which the reporter is employed to discover.

Given recent events I suspect it will be 46115.

I certainly points to the reporter not bothering to either talk to the crew or contact West Coast for their comments, so what's new?

The 37 was doing a fair bit of growling when they passed me at Shotlock. I was more than a bit surprised to hear BIL’s whistle as it passed Garsdale. I’d been expecting 46115.

Could well be on 'drive with caution' to avoid sparks.

Could be, but the wet patch on the seat of my trousers when I stood up from sitting on the ground seemed to tell me it was kind of damp. (Unless I’d had an unnoticed accident ).

The day did not go quite as planned. Mrs W and I left home in what we thought was plenty of time to take a look at BIL in Hellifield station. We had not bargained for the slow moving traffic and temporary speed restrictions on the A59 just before Gisburn for the opening of The Herders music festival. By the time we arrived at Hellifield BIL had already retreated down the Blackburn line; all that was visible was some smoke drifting forwards from between the trackside trees.

We intended to go to Settle station but as we approached the town the clouds began to darken and showers had been forecast. It looked brighter further north - not Horton in Ribblesdale again! (I hear you say). We had plenty of time as the Dalesman was booked to follow a stone train that was due into Arcow Quarry shortly. I wonder what happens there? So off to Arcow.

Very soon the empty stone train arrived behind 66715, stopped short of the junction, then headed slowly up the hill, stopped again just beyond the junction, some faffing about by men in orange suits and then the train reversed very, VERY slowly onto the quarry line. Some more faffing by the men in orange suits and the train was clear of the main line (12.32). The 66 drew forward, a wait and then it reversed further down the line and stopped. (This was the first split (into 2), I understand that the train would be divided again (into 3) for filling and then remarshalled for collection later in the afternoon).

This was all very interesting but here I was side on to the track with a steam train due imminently, what sort of shot could I take? What would Steve or Nige do? Answer, pan! Mmm, but they are good at this sort of thing and the only pan that I'm familiar with is a frying pan. Ah well, first time for everything so I decided to give it a go . . .

The 66 was still revving and moving about on the quarry line - that won't help the sound. Too late to worry now, steam in the trees and BIL was here, slowly and smoothly Oswald, no jerking, keep up, don't get too far in front, quick it's getting away, no not too fast. Thank goodness it's gone, that was the most stressful 60 seconds I've had in a long time. 41 mph, 14L, 17C and no sun where it mattered. Oswald was in need of a cup of tea and a bacon butty. As there was less chance of rain in the east we headed over to a cafe in Kilnsey.

Oswald's first pan (frying pans excluded) wasn't at all bad.

Well that was pretty special for a pan Mr Oswald but Nige is the expert when panning although the elastic band on the tripod arm works fantastic for smooth pan shots

I was at Wharton and I honestly thought the train was going to come around the corner with the diesel on the front. I could hear the 37 when it must have been passing you.
