Hi. This is Helen Hamilton, project director at Harving Ltd. We did look at keeping the railway at Dean Hill Park but it was far too expensive to maintain, did not fit in with our aims for the site and in addition created an enormous health and safety headache. This was not a change of policy. We are not in the business of running heritage railways: our work is in farming, conservation (wildlife) and commercial property. We did extend invitations at our open evenings (advertised in the regional press and on the website) in 2006 and 2007 to anyone interested in the railway to come and talk to us about possible ways of keeping the system but found absolutely no interest.

The decision to remove the railway was not taken lightly but it was final. I am sorry that you are disappointed and I hope you can all understand our reasons. The equipment for sale will be listed shortly on http://www.cheffins.co.uk

Please do not hassle the Conservation Group on their walks, they have nothing to do with the railway and do a wonderful job of recording and monitoring the wildlife at Dean Hill Park.

    regards

    Helen Hamilton

Hopefully, the student loan will help complete your education in the realities of life and the benefit of manners...

The earlier response from Helen Hamilton was calm, collected, pertinent and realistic...

    Whereas, your comments...

    :-k

To be frank if you knew me you would know that my manners are perfect and that I am fully aware of the realities of life, was meerly a jovial comment Mr Dimmick! Disappointment can come across in a manner of ways that shouldn't be judged in written communication, misinterpretation is a dangerous thing, I meant no harm to anyone! And I would prefer not to be judged on a single sentance, especially on a forum where we are all supposed to come together in out collective love and appreciation for railways...

I'm not sure that your description of Helen Hamilton as "rude, self rightious and generally a pain" can have helped your cause much.

But... given the fact that you are apparently in favour of a railway attraction at Dean Hill - how does it advance your cause to 'dis' the very people you hope to influence, especially as they had just used this forum to explain their position (and so can obviously see every comment that is made about them...)

No matter how trying your personal circumstances - for which you have my deepest sympathy - that approach will never achieve the end you desire...

To be honest Roger I have admitted I made a mistake and apologised, so I really don't see the need in protracting my regrett!

My reading of the Cheffins site http://www.cheffins.co.uk/news/the-dean ... -machinery is that the railway equipment is for sale by tender, ie not part of the auction.

Having been unsuccessful in tendering for some of the rail, does anybody know who was successful for the rail and the various items of rolling stock ?

I find it surprising that no-one has taken up this outrageous suggestion from Ms Hamilton that railway fans would "hassle" conservation workers. I begin to think that SpudUK is not too far off the mark concerning this person. I find some of the po-faced comments about his youthful enthusiasm a tad holier than thou...

Hi this seems to be very old news on their site - they disposed of all their ex MOD stuff over a year ago, most (including the loco) went to Exmoor for the L&B!

The word is that the entire stock of rail etc was sold in one lot to a 'dealer' for a high price (based on the value of the known failed bids) My guess it will end up on the Crossrail tunneling contracts...!

Any more info would be gratefuly received

Trackwork etc. is all for sale from said "dealer" - can't remember the name off the top of my head -a friend has been to see them on site at Deans Hill with a view to making an offer for an amount of rail.

If you're referring to my previous post, I'm afraid due to the various negotiations under way I can't say anything more until the time that information is officially released into the public domain - sorry!
