The unexploded munitions are out on the Army Ranges. The mind blocks from the amateur CFOs.CCEs and CMEs are a different story!

This is rapidly becoming a total WIBBLE thread. Full of speculation, Agenda's and otherwise total rubbish!
Please refer back to post #1900 from yesterday, Like "Rumpole" As a working volunteer, I have not seen any proposals to terminate the DMMU service at Corfe either.
I really do not understand where some of the regular posters on here get their ideas from.

You only have to look back at this thread to find several proposals from people to terminate the DMU service at Corfe.;)

However, it is fairly obvious that the many proposals regarding train services on the SR (and the WSR for that matter) generally come from people who obviously have no idea of the practicalities of running a railway, heritage or not.

Indeed. Perhaps this thread also suffers from too many people who have no idea of what they are talking about.

Fiction dressed up as fact; the curse of many a discussion forum. Perhaps this thread could do with a short holiday until the time comes for concrete plans to emerge from the SVR itself.

I have previously volunteered at Swanage and been close to the Wareham project. As such, sadly I haven’t been in a position to share the latest news that isn’t yet in the public domain - my lips have been sealed - but I have been in a good position to assess the quality of the comments made and questions raised, and on the whole they’re pretty good.

Light has been shone into the corners of the room some people would prefer to leave dark and that’s not always been comfortable. There’s nothing wrong with scrutiny and challenge.

I don’t know the planned start date, but if we assume it’s May 2023 that’s only 9 months away. We know how slowly the wheels can turn, those 9 months will fly by, and the momentum needs to start to build now.

Anyone who has worked in preservation will appreciate just how much has gone into developing and maintaining the Swanage Railway over the last 50 years. Unimaginable volunteer hours to overcome obstacles and challenges along the way. The outcome of the trial is crucial for Swanage, not necessarily for its future success or existence - I’m sure it will survive come what may - but for its future direction. The fact that people want to talk about it, challenge it, praise it, etc, should be welcomed as a success. It’s hotting up time, not stifle-the-debate time.

Nobody wishes to stifle sensible, intelligent debate. The problem is the wibble, the vast majority of which comes from (or is initiated by) one individual.

Having been involved in research in an industry I would just add that doing blue sky thinking results in a lot of things that on deeper look are not practicable but then that probably 1% of ideas are the ones that give the competitive initiative, so if you are a forward thinking organisation you need to rationally look at what is put forward or else you miss that key concept.

I’m sure you’re right, provided you can distinguish between genuine blue sky thinking and comments made simply to cause annoyance and/or promote an irrational, outdated agenda!

I get where you're coming from, but suggest the one direction "blue sky thinking" can't, by definition, be looking is at it's feet*, so to speak. It's more often than not doing that which caused an outdated agenda to become an outdated agenda in the first place.

    * that's the polite and anatomically possible version.

Indeed, but I would suggest that a quick look at who the comments are coming from, their past form and likely motivations, should give you a slight clue as to whether their comments are worth considering. :)

It should be noted I have 'auto-zone-out' setting .... most usually triggered (on NP ... I have it in real life too!) every time the WSR threads kick off! ;)

I'm sure most (if not all) of us on here are open to blue sky thinking about the future or the SR (or any other railway) and rational debate and discussion is great.

Where it has fallen down on this thread, is that one individual refuses to actually debate anything while maintaining that everyone else is wrong.

    The Swanage Railway Project

To reconnect to the mainline at Wareham
To run an amenity service to connect to the National Rail Network

Now if those Stated aims changed over the years were those changes published? voted on ?
The debate is whether the SRC has publicly disavowed the objectives of its founders; if it has not, then let some socially responsible use be made of a connection made as long ago as 2006.after 30 long years of struggle!!

I am merely a member of nearly 50yrs.
If you believe SRC should repudiate its founding tenets then put it to a vote. at the next AGM
