Looking forward to this as always. We really do need some rain though as we don't want a postponement like in 2018. 4270 and 9F double header would be good. A 2-10-0 double header if possible please as well as there are not many places where you can ride behind a pair of engines like that any more. :)

I remember when the line was almost exclusively run by industrial saddle tanks

Let's hope there's a bit of rain on the Norfolk coast over the next 4 weeks!

Note from the NNR website Gala is postponed until 8 and 9 October due to fire risk.

FIRE RISK – GALA POSTPONED TO SATURDAY 8 & SUNDAY 9 OCTOBER

Although we have resumed operating steam trains, a number of precautions are still in place including limiting the size of trains so engines do not work hard a emit sparks from the chimney, running at reduced speed if necessary and carrying out regular reviews in the event of high temperatures or dry weather.

This means that whilst it is possible to operate our standard services, we cannot be certain the the right conditions will prevail to enable an intensive timetable to operate as planned. The gala programme was to feature “non-stop expresses” and non-passenger services run purely for demonstration and removing these would remove much of the very essence of our Galas.

Accordingly, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the Gala and rearrange it for Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October and will collaborate with the M&GNJR Society to incorporate their Members’ Day into a weekend long showcase and celebration of the M&GN and NNR. See www.nnrailway.co.uk/autumn-gala/ Further details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Visiting GWR locomotive No. 4270 is one of the locomotives scheduled to operate our revised timetable over the Bank Holiday Weekend – 27, 28 & 29 August - https://www.nnrailway.co.uk/bank-hol/. The engine is also due to run at the Steam Back To The Forties event on 17 and 18 September - see www.nnrailway.co.uk/steam-back-to-the-forties/

Passengers who have purchased advance tickets for the Bank Holiday Gala should see www.nnrailway.co.uk/summer-gala/ for options.

Oh, that's a shame. I can't say I am surprised though. Conditions are very similar to 2018 :(:(:Morewaitingisrequired:

Couldn't make the August weekend but it is available for us in October, competition with the Ffesters/WHR event! Bit of a long drive at nearly 5 hours but according to the Missus she fancies some flat landing, so looks like we are off to East Anglia come October.

Not a gala but 3 steam trains in use and mainly well loaded particularly from Holt in the morning and returning in the afternoon. Personally I never understood the logic of moving the gala to a Bank Holiday weekend unless it was to help with crew rosters as many of the volunteers are of working age. At least 4270 is in use actually performing the most trips yesterday complete with appropriate coach next to it.

Yes, had a great couple of days at the railway over the weekend. A lovely scenic line and well worth the nearly 500 miles round trip for my first visit. I really love the way that there are numerous footpaths close to the railway which result in some lovely views of trains in the distance and through the woods!
Thanks so much for the wonderful volunteers and staff at the railway. They were all friendly and helpful and great to see the trains well filled on both days, but not overcrowded. A lot of families using the trains for a day at the seaside too. Hopefully, not too long before I return.
    Thanks, Andy

I’m very biased but time spent at the North Norfolk is never time wasted. Very lucky to have such a lovely spot not that far away from us.

Details for the 'Showcase'/Members weekend now on the website: https://www.nnrailway.co.uk/autumn-showcase/

States 3 steam and 1 or more diesel locomotives in use, along with the vintage train and quad art set. So an intensive service, but not quite a normal gala.

No but it does mean that Members and shareholders travel free...Be aware there is a national rail strike on the Saturday of this event...which may mess up my plans

That’s not at all correct. This year we had the unfortunate situation with the high fire risk.
