Somebody in Poland obviously thought it a good idea ........

The PKP built this monstrosity TKr55.1 (a one - off) in 1957 using the running gear of an S160 (PKP class Tr201/3). The S160 boiler went on another one - off class the name of which escapes me at the mo. Must surely rank as one of the most ugly tank engines ever built. Thinking of building a replica? Noooooo!!!!

If it didn't, it would do a bloody good job of extending it by itself I think.

If those dimensions are correct, it's 30cm shorter than an Ivatt 2MT tank...

With a few tweaks here and there - Voila a Decapod.:):)

I think there are some spare wheels somewhere.

Just out of interest, does anyone know why the KWVR don't hire out Big Jim for Polar Express services? I'd have thought that'd be a real money spinner for them.

The only engine that you'd need to get the ugly stick out for when starting with an s160...

Maybe not so much of a money spinner if they have to hire in something as a replacement for it?

Last Christmas it was out of use .
Since 1/1/22 it’s been the only large loco available (when available),so why would they hire out ,suffer possible issues whilst away from home ,and have to double head (crew) their longer trains ?

More pertinently could the boiler be made to look like a GWR standard 7?

Yeah, I can see that - but they have a fairly healthy steam fleet, albeit nothing more powerful than a Class 2 aside from Big Jim until 75078 comes back. Though the Class 2s seem to handle everything at the moment perfectly well!
