    Re the livery.
What the hell does it matter?
Unless of course you are one of the fraternity that never pays your hard earned money to travel
behind restored locos and are more interested in rivet counting and colour chart checking.
Either put up or shut up.
She could be turned out in MIO for all I care, as long as she performs well.
For all you livery afficionados, MIO is the black speckly paint applied before the primer, undercoat,
topcoat and varnish are applied and therefore more important than the final livery.
There's more to life than the "right" livery, just be gratefull that she works.

Yep, I'll second that Salty. Perhaps we could have a "Livery" section where all such threads could be gathered together, so those of us who still have a life can avoid them?

Also - how come she hasn't fallen apart yet as predicted on here? I'd be interested to know what was done in Crewe - she didn't seem to be there 5 minutes? Can anyone shed some light on this, or is it sub-judice?

So anyone who cares abut getting the livery right needs to get a life do they? I'd better tell the loco/rolling stock owners who go to some lengths to get the livery right that they are saddos then. Why so anti? This hobby of ours is a broad church and it takes all sorts.

No one is saying that owners are saddo's for going to extraordinary lengths to get liveries right.Believe me
getting paint manufacturers to reproduce colours from 40 or more years ago is a difficult job.
It's just the nit picking that goes on by people who who don't think twice about spending hundereds of
pounds on camera equipment but wouldn't dream of paying £70-80 to ride behind a loco.
Don't get me wrong, I know a few photters who spend most of their time lineside but also make a point of
booking on a few tours now and again. Fair play to them, I appreciate their photographic efforts as much as the next man.
What winds me up are the people who never put any thing financially back into the preservation movement, and I know a few like that.

That's life in general I'm afraid. There will always be those who want owt for nowt. What annoys me is those who assume all photographers put nothing back into the movement when in fact quite a few do.

    Sounds like his enjoying himself!

Very impressive - thanks for sharing! Quick question - is she supposed to sound like that? Sounded a bit 'off beat' to me (i.e. exhaust beats not all equally spaced).

Probably one of the things that requires attention back at Crewe, certainly sounds nothing like Guardsman.

Definitely sounds off beat to me too. If she runs first shot, with just the valve timing a bit out, thats not bad. Setting the timing of a steam engine is a suprisingly hard thing to do, and its very easy to get it very slightly wrong. No doubt it'll get sorted soon enough, and then she'll sound great.

Sounded a bit "Gresley" rather than "Stanier" with the valve events, but as others have said, nothing that can't be fixed back at base.

When you look at that it is a shame that it is sometimes difficult for the un-initiated to appreciate the sheer amount of work that has gone into it. However, its truly miraculous. A dear old lady in her 90's did a superb cross-stitch picture of Royal Scot for our wedding present - its great to see the real thing back!!
Well done all who grafted =D>

Ah, well said, Stan. Too many posts here smack of self-importance.
