What a sight for sore eyes that is today.

A lot of people could learn from the Atlantic Project.

Truly spectacular stuff. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh again.

That’s how you recreate an excellent extinct locomotive class. Quietly, carefully and with a good plan the whole way.

A sight for sore eyes, indeed. After the really tough summer the railway has had to endure, something to gladden everyone's heart.
The finish line really is in sight, now. The Bluebell's very own "first born", created by its own workshops, experience and expertise.

Wonderful ..... just wonderful. Absolutely no mistaking that outline. :)

Fantastic, clearly the finishing line is now in sight , its not will it be finished,? but when.
Has the boiler already had its out of the frames steam test, or has it gone in to facilitate final assembly of everything, before its stage one steam test, As it's a wide firebox, does the boiler have to be lifted if it hasn't had its steam test? I was under the impression that if the foundation ring can be gotten at, to visually inspect it, a steam test can be done in the frames

Well, “Fenchurch” already has its boiler back in the frames if that was what you are thinking - but that was done using the workshop cranes. Given the complexity, I’m not sure if anything else was lined up to do.

Was actually thinking of one of the larger locos in the queue, but it was no more than my usual 'tight as' tendencies, Tom! :)

Just having checked, that post was an hour and a half ago ... and I'm still grinning ear to ear, every time the image crosses my mind!

Fantastic news! I've always put some money towards the Atlantic Project whenever I visit Atlantic House down the years and so good to see the loco so close to the finish line.

Also good to see John Sandy's responsible for the pictures, as I've always enjoyed his regular photo updates but hadn't seen any for a little while.

It was a very interesting operation, using the specially fabricated lifting points on the dome and safety valves, though if it means that the cladding can remain in place for future lifts, then so much the better. I understand that the manufacture and fitting of it has been a real mission and a half!
One thing which I'm wondering, is how the locomotive and tender will be moved and rotated 90° in order to enter the works for final assembly, etc.- Surely not another crane job?!

I was thinking about Beachy Head's boiler being lifted in and what that means for its ticket. Good to see it making another step towards steaming.

The ticket only starts ticking once the fire is lit. Presumably this will be done with the foundation ring still fully visible?

Well yes but I wasn't sure where they got to with the fire. I was thinking about it while lying in bed last night.

I'm assuming the plan is to plum everything up ,so systems can be checked, with the engine in light steam at first, test everything works as it should, and then at full pressure set the safety valves, before the inspector comes in to do the official test, once it's passed, move the engine out of it's shed, into the running shed, for the Part 2 of the steam test,

Fantastic news, this is my favourite of the new builds, and i do hope that its gets a chance to visit other heritage railways. It would definitely be popular and command a very good steaming fee to help generate money towards its future.

There’s a brief update on the Bluebell’s “what’s new” page. Apparently the crane arrived at 8am and the loco was back inside Atlantic House with the boiler in place by 2:30 that afternoon.
