Our next running day will be on Sunday 19 June with our Peckett Steam engine ‘Rocket’. I’ll be on site, so it will be great to see you if you can join us.

has there been much development on the plan extension?

 

Hi Ady, thanks for asking the question.

On the ground you would probably say ‘not a lot’, but behind the scenes we have been busy obtaining rail, sleepers and machinery that will allow the railway to start expanding southwards in (hopefully) the not to distant future. The first step will be the 250 metres or so from Horsehay & Dawley station to the Barrow crossing. Here the track (not up to operational standard) needs to be lifted, and the drainage sorted. Once the drainage has been rectified, track will be relaid to operational standard. This will be a small but significant advance as it will then allow the potentially more straight forward extension to Doseley Halt.

As with all heritage railways, it is all dependent on the amount of funds and volunteers we have available. We always need more of both! To this end I am organizing an open day on Saturday 30 July for prospective members and volunteers to come to the railway, see what we are about and to learn more about our development and extension plans and, hopefully join us. We are making slow but continuous advances in lots of areas of the railway, including increasing publicity and raising our profile in both the railway and non railway communities.
