NG/G16 No.87 storms the 1 in 40 through Beddgelert Forest

The No.87 saga continues...

Follow one of its first appearances in steam on the Cob - HERE

Loaded test runs were undertaken with a rake of FR Carriages - HERE

The loco was then transferred to the WHR (the first steam loco to traverse Porthmadog's Cross-Town Link and the Cambrian Coast line at Cae Pawb - HERE

No.87 is now being used on the Crew Training runs between Rhyd Ddu and Beddgelert...

very good , lovely loco and first class permanent way.....

Im a bit disappointed though in one way....it isnt the Welsh Highland as it was in any way or at any time. I know its impractical, but Id love to see Russell and a couple of near derelict coaches rocking and rolling through the weeds at a snails pace.Its not going to stop me visiting this summer though hopefully

Just take it that the use of the word was banned last year. It's not that people who know are having a laugh - it causes very serious problems. Sorry we can't say more!

 

Thankfully it seems those involved in the invertebrate-by-the-sea line have got bored, and not a peep has been heard for quite some time. Anyway, probably best to move on from this subject as it risks starting up this whole debacle again; its also a little off topic...

Interesting how regular the beats are on No85, considering that the two engines are independent of each other.

 

A credit to Boston Lodge, looks like they got it right on the fourth attempt, a visible loco moving along the line and not a cloud of steam. Well done =D>

WOW - Didn't know they could make a noise like that!

Whenever I have travelled behind them on the current WHR they have been pretty quiet and also pretty slow - I hope trains will be getting upto the kind of speeds in that clip on the new extension.

Roll on 21st April when I plan to visit and enjoy a ride to Beddgelert.
