You can bet those are going to be packed as well with everyone targeting them to make sure they get to ride behind all the visiting locomotives at some point.

I'm not exactly attending but will say my view as I'm welcome to it. But what it seems the NYMR have too many of their own things rostered every day.

If I was visiting a gala at NYMR. I would focus on visiting engines followed by locomotives soon to go out of ticket. But having a guest to just do one round trip a day and not even solo is in my eyes a bit of a waste.

I do agree, although given the size of 85 and the challenging line the nymr can be I did doubt whether it would do much solo. However, the thing I find disappointing is, following 85's announcement the web page has had the line "during the gala the locomotive will team up with No. 29, ‘Peggy’ on select services" - Two former Lambton Colliery tank engines working together, possibly the first time since they left? I knew it wouldn't happen every run but thought it would be a feature a couple of times over the four days... it only happens once on the Sunday (unfortunately for me, the one day I'm not around).

I understand the reasons with 85. I was actually thinking about 73156 in mind instead.

Ah yes of course, which is also disappointing as a couple of days its on the diner which I don't believe conveys non-diner passengers anymore.

On regular days, the rear coach (The Mk1) carries normal passengers, not sure about the gala however

On both my visits during August the rear coach of the Moorlander was carrying passengers in both directions (47077 on the front).

Either way, why pay to transport a loco hundreds of miles and then use it on a service that is full of customers who booked to travel ages ago regardless of the motive power?! As for 85, it should be paired up with 29 every day.

Agreed home fleet locos should be all the dining trains and yes 29/85 at least one trip per day, lots of wasted opporunties this year sadly, but similarly if lots of pre booked gala tickets already sold, NYMR won't care as they already have your cash!

Some years ago 29 did a four coach train on Grosmont to Goathland shuttles, so I had hoped for something similar with the two Lambton tanks at this years gala.
I also expected at least once each day they would team up and take their place doing a round full line trip.
I just can't see why you would bring 85 to the NYMR and not even use it at all one day and furthermore fail to ensure that anyone wanting to travel behind it has that chance.
85s capacity at the NYMR is unknown but it regular handles 5 coaches at the KWVR. I think 29 is now regarded as a four coach loco but I have had it solo on 6 teaks full round trip no problems at all.

Lets also hope a reciprocal visit to the KWVR is on the cards, a Lambton weekend with 29, 85 and 60 from the Aln Valley would be great.

I think the best thing for us to do if we are unhappy with the roster is to write to the railway management.

The diner hasn't had ordinary passenger accommodation this year. It is also coupled to an open wagon at the north end which carries a gen set to supply power to the kitchen.

Thats what I thought Steve but there was a Mark 1 in the diner set yesterday which proved quite handy, picking up passengers at Goathland following the cancellation of the previous train IMG_5066 copy.jpg

Isn’t the mark 1 simply acting as the brake for the set for the time being?

The diner hasn't officially been part of the public timetable though that hasn't stopped the odd passenger being carried if required, if the guard is happy at any rate.

Don't suppose anyone knows when it is planned for Lucie to move to Levisham ready for her pilot duties during the gala?

So will the Diner convey non-dining passengers at the Gala? Is there scope for another MK1 to be added to increase capacity?
