I have recently got one,so far, very impressed,i am still getting used to it but here are my latest results:

It's hard to review really, compared to my others (S8000FD) and (S5600) it is way better, photos appear very clear and there is plenty of scope, also the ISO is quite effective and doesn't have too much effect below 800ISO.

    I would say 8/10

    and for £150 you can't go wrong,not bad for £2 a week!
    Cheers,
    Mark

Not had the S1000fd, but from reviews and two upgrade by fuji I would suggest either the f2000hd or the f1500hd, Secondly if you go to fuji website you can by a refurbd with 6months warrenty on it, and your can also extend this warrenty to several years at not much extra cost, and it also cover accedentle damage. I picked up aa S100fd for 123 and got a 3 years warrenty added to it for another 35 pounds ( may not be axact on the figues but it was around that. I would also say if you don't wont the range of the S1000fd,1500 or 2000 the S100fd is greate compact camera, gives greate results, 12 meg and also has top of the range features.

You your in no hurry I woudl also suggest the 9600, again will have to be a refurb, I bagged 1 from dabs a few weeks ago for less than 90 pounds including postage, anyone who knows the 9500/9600 will tell you is practicly an SLR camera with a fix lens (28-300). Unlike most bridge camera's it is not a manual zoom as well.

Last of all I would say despite some reviews of the 8000 as my Mum has had one for a over a year and I have used it sevral times, it is also a good performer, yu can pick up the newer 8100 for just under 140 from fuji refurb site as well.

If you check out my web site I have loads of photo's taken with fuji's along with two dozen other camera's.

Think that should read, "...has got a manual zoom as well."

    Mine has, anyway!

I'm pretty good at washing them too. Or getting them covered in shower gel! Don't ask.

Me and phones don't get along. The last one lasted 5 weeks before going in the washing machine by mistake (moral of story, don't do washing after drinking a bottle of Sambuca). A previous flip phone got turned into a flop phone after being dropped and breaking the spring (once again, whilst drunk). The one that got coated in shower gel was in the bottom of a rucksack, in which a bottle of shower gel decided to explode everywhere.

I'm sure it would easier just to use a phone box at times.

What is the best mode to photograph steam locos at speed and on preserved railways?

The 'sport' mode forces a faster shutter speed but still remains in 'auto', and also reduces the dreaded digital delay. It does use more power in this mode, don't know by how much but advice is to keep a spare set of batteries.
