50 years (and 1 day) after same locomotive hauled first steam trains of the preservation era on the furness line.

An immaculate Class 5 No. 44932 speeds 5Z84 through Beckfoot off to Carlisle to await its stock for 1Z87 'Cumbrian Coast Express'. Carnforth are to be congratulated for the superb job getting this engine back on the mainline

    On the 45th!
Thanks for making me feel old... I was there on Arnside station. The first disappointment was that 44932 ran out tender first. Then to find out it was a green black five. Very confusing! A good friend was laid to rest in Arnside cemetery this week and parking in the same spot by the line 50 years later brought back the memories. I think that one other Nat Pres member was also with us 50 years ago...

It was a strange sort of green too. I didn't see it on that occasion, but I saw it on visits to Steamtown in the following few years. Come to think of it, the only times I saw it in black were in BR days.

It had completely passed me by that it was 50 years yesterday since those trains on 23/9/72. Is it really half a century, where did it go ?
Still at school, I was on that trip behind 44932 having seen 44871 leave with the first one.
But they both faced Barrow and returned tender first -- here's 44932 entering a Carnforth station very much in the course of change.
Well done to all at Carnforth for turning the loco out in time for the anniversary.

I understand there's another 50 years plus 1 day anniversary coming up soon this time for Bahamas, the anniversary of her first run under the then new 'Bahamas Locomotive Society' owner-operator arrangement 15th October.
