A coupling issue at Pickering with Gresley has delayed services even more. 4498 is now just rolling into Levisham two hours down. Still sat here behind the S15 as the Q6 arrives LE from Goathland to hitch a ride to Pickering.

Saw a few trains on the webcam [hallelujah for them] and I have to say spot on for having 926 and 73156 double header passing 80136 at Goathland, something a true Southerner [or casual like me] would certainly be most proud of. :)

    29 on the goods train.
85 and 92134 top and tailed, bit strange but understandable.
4498, just doing what it does best.

After having a think, I may do next years, pending on certain grievances.

Although, here is a question that has been bugging me:
Is Gresley owned by the NYMR or is it just based there in between mainline duties?

NYMR seem to have removed their FaceAche post from a few hours ago - commenting probably spoilt a vocal minority...

You do have to feel for the 'normals' that just want a day out on a steam train :-(

Failures happen from time to time, but sadly the more you try and do, the bigger risk you take...

A very enjoyable visit over the weekend, with the usual Yorkshire mix of weather. Highlights being the standard 5 in the sun on Friday afternoon, a lovely run behind Gresley and Saturday night with excellent food and a great run behind 73156 on the pullman.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you and well done to all involved, Dad and I had a fantastic weekend, only our second visit to the line and our first for a gala, we were in awe at the number of movements at Grosmont, as a member of our own gala committee it was mind-boggling! It did get a bit bonkers busy with people too whenever the A4 was in the vicinity.
It was good to have some proper time to explore each station as well as ride the trains. I really liked how even the modern marketing was on traditional railway poster boards, it tied it all in nicely. Lucie shunting at Levisham with some wagons was great, even if it did cause problems on Sunday, that was unfortunate. Seeing the J27 on the goods train was particularly pleasing, it was a decent rake too. The teak train was sublime, and I was finally able to admire the scumbling on the Thompson coach, what a work of art. The ECJS Diner is going to be stunning when finished too. Thanks to @Steve for the heads up on the Q6 we had a great early evening run behind it on the Saturday.

All in all, well worth the long trip from Cheltenham.

Helluva crowd to watch the goods train go by...

But they stayed to watch this strange wedge-shaped thing come past too :)

A very enjoyable four days on the North York Moors with some decent weather on offer on the Friday. While timekeeping went out the window on most days it didn't detract from our enjoyment. Though being stranded at Levisham on Sunday with no operational tearoom or buffet car did test our resilience and those on the volunteering side who'd all but thrown the towel in.

The tea room at Levisham itself closed early Saturday and Sunday well before the last trains had run at about 4pm, which I found a little odd as surely as it was lost custom on what would have been the busiest days of the year.

Did anyone notice the pipe wagon behind the Pullman set or was that just me?
I think it had a generator on it.

The folk who run the teahut at levisham are lovely, albeit on the older side, and operate on weekends through the running season. It seems to operate seperately to the other more commercial operations on the railway and so far as I'm aware doesn't rely on paid staff. As much as I'd have loved a tea on sunday as I tried to keep the S15 quiet, I don't begrudge the volunteers for going home.

Understand volunteers may want to limit their time, but it just seems like a lost opportunity for the railway especially on the gala weekend. Think on the Sunday when everything was running late an no catering on the service i was on stuck at Levisham they would have had a captive market.
