Typical Metro Elitist comment, most of us have no idea where Southwark Park is or for that matter don't give a fig but if it were Heaton Park, Hampden Park or Pheonix Park then it would have some meaning.

Think about where people had to join a recent queue to spend ages queuing before a very short visit. I'd never heard of Southwark Park till about September 10th, but am now well aware of it's existence.

Lived in London for my first 62 years, never heard of it. Even after a Google search only have a vague idea without looking at a map.
Humour and sarcasm only works if other folks get it!!

I don’t know where you lived in London but Southwark Park had its own station between London Bridge and New Cross, opened in 1902 it only lasted until 1915. The next station towards London, Spa Road was closed at the same time. When I commuted from Grove Park in the 60s the remains of the platforms were still visible and the boarded up station entrance below was still there. I think NR did toy with the idea of reopening it at one stage.

Most reasonable people would either have ignored my comment (‘by eck whas tha talkin abaht? Must’em be they London folk speakin’ funny’), or perhaps asked where Southwark Park is or why it’s relevant.

The fact that a number of people ‘liked’ the comment suggests that it was fairly recognisable to many. Including people from outside London, who presumably didn’t have their ears covered through the biggest event of the year so far…

Not @RalphW though… he goes straight on the attack, condemning someone for the presumed crime of ‘knowing the name of a park in London’ and bringing out the worst insult he knows… ‘Metro elitist’, the revulsion dripping from his provincial sub-elite words… ;) ;) ;)

though to be fair, he took 6 days to build up to the attack, so it was clearly well thought through.

    Simon
