We are not going to be blessed with a crisp, dry autumnal day for the last CME of the year; it is currently raining steadily here in Darwen and the forecast for the day is for light showers along most of the route. Hey, ho!

I would be grateful if anyone travelling on today's CME can record, then post a time for the climb from Ormside to the Aisgill summit sign. I am keeping a record of all posted times for the year. [Pleases see post #63 on the "WCRC Scarborough Spa/Dalesman/Spirit of the Lakes/normal tours 2022" thread for full details.]

Thanks, in anticipation and enjoy. Remember, "Oswald needs YOUR time!"

42 late from Euston unfortunately. The northbound leg is tightly timed, so not that much opportunity for recovery before Carnforth.

1C96 arrives into Carnforth goods loop, 42 down.

35018 going on the sharp end, 47804 on the rear.

Looks like the London Euston to Glasgow will be let in front of BIL .35018 in front but could be looped at Grayrigg.

Assisting diesel courtesy of Network Rail. Apparently notification not received until Thursday. The new standard for operating steam in the leaf fall season???

The middle of October seems the start point for all assisted tours in the North West and beyond. Surprised you travelled given what happened last year. The choice of locomotive all but confirmed it. So, that will be it for pure steam until the end of January.

804 failed leaving Carlisle. So 11+Cl47 on return.

Surely the box will come off at Hellifield. Defitnely High risk up Wilpshire with that trailing load.

Pretty good run that 110 mins to Settle Jn with 14 on the back. More data for Oswald's model!

Well, it gives people on here something to write pages and pages of wibble about, doesn’t it.

What would be the logic of removing the diesel if there is potential for problem at Wilpshire?

I think it means it would have been taken off if it was not fixed.

Because when that message was sent it was dead and would just be an additional tonnage to drag up Wilpshire?

Today's weather threw almost everything at us, sun, rain (at times biblical), gales, thunder (very loud), lightning (very bright), hail, the lot. Photos from a breezy and bright Beck Houses and a drenched, but drying out Kirkby Stephen...
