This will be your last chance to see 4270 on our completely pre-nationalisation goods train before withdrawal at the end of the year, so I thoroughly recommend a brake van ride! :)

    upload_2022-10-13_21-51-42.jpeg

Also the last running days for the visiting Deltic, an intensive timetable with 5 sets out, all four of our home fleet of steam locos in service along with double headed Cl.47s on the Saturday and the Cl.20 and Cl.37 on the Sunday.

It's a good opportunity to have a look in our workshops in C&W as well, the RBr in at the moment is in a particularly impressive state of being gutted with metal repairs well under way. At Toddington you can look inside both the steam and diesel sheds to view progress on restorations and also part with some cash care of our home fleet owning groups' trade stands.

Do come along and say hello if you spot me, I'm not quite clinging to the goods train all weekend, but I won't be far away! :)

Any reason the last trains go to Broadway and then don't come back to Toddington as a passenger service?

Just means we can all start packing up a bit earlier and makes it a bit easier to get people to volunteer. It's only the very last train from either end that is ECS back. Especially on the Sunday by 6pm it will certainly be dark, so plenty of opportunity for some atmospheric photos at the end of the day. :)

Anything going on at Gotherington on the short length of track or their excellent curry for lunch?

'Fraid not this time, Gotherington Station Gardens will be open again for the steam gala in May next year. I think it's more of a spring/summer thing really, last autumn it was open but didn't get much footfall.

Can one come along to look at the C&W without having to buy a ticket (suitable donation instead)? One curious carriage and wagon bodywork/ carpenter.

That should be ok, access is through the station and off the East end of P1. Parking may be a bit thin on the ground at Winchcombe though if you aren't intending to travel by train. Donations box is on the left as you go through the C&W main entrance :)

My wife was thoroughly interested at the re-upholstery earlier this year, now suggesting we volunteer at our local haunt for this, the ELR! Looks like my carpentry skills may be put to the test!!

I think last gala was the first time we'd let people upstairs to see upholstery, glad to hear it was worthwhile, although the idea was that it would encourage people to volunteer here! ;)

Is one required to have a gala ticket prior to booking a brake van ride, or can certain trips e.g. Toddington-Broadway & return be booked regardless? Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, you must have a gala ticket to have a brake van ride, in addition to the £10 supplement. Brake van rides are being sold on the brake vans this time, rather than buying at the booking office of departure, as this was causing a little friction before. Cash only please :)

Just a quick side question, will the second platform and footbridge at Broadway be accessible this weekend?

Footbridge yes, platform 2 no, that is still a construction site. Hopefully we should see some progress on that side again soon.

Seems a bit strange for the footbridge to be accessible, but not the platform. Where does the footbridge go to?

A view :) The platform, as I say, is still just a building site, but the footbridge is finished and a wonderful job they have done on it too, so we want people to be able to make some use of it.

Planning to visit though I note there's engineering work at Gloucester so it's either Bus or via Bristol for me. It makes the journey at little longer both ways.
