    What's the general setup?

I'm considering hiring a car for the LNER gala, but there doesn't look much in the way of a car park down there, and I'm too polite to pinch a local's parking space in the village, so does anyone know if they open up a field or anything for parking for big events? I always travel by train if I can, but with not having booked light years ahead, and the falling price of petrol, and what with this being a bus ride from the station, it is honestly looking very attractive to hire a car for the day and rock up at the gates at 10am on the dot (subject to a proper quotation from a real person in the morning). As it's a hire car, I really don't fancy parking it down an unwatched alley on an industrial estate, or having it clamped by some thieving bandits.

p.s. the gala thread is in gen chat for some reason

At the last LNER gala there was parking in a big field next door.

Been the case every time i've been, the 1st time was quite a while ago so it's not a new thing or for one event only it seems.

There will be at least three times the car parking normally available at Barrow Hill Galas as we have obtained permission to use a variety of locations within a 10-15min walk of the shed - all will be signposted and manned.

A free bus service will also operate at least half hourly from Chesterfield Railway station to the depot.

Cheers, I think I'm definitely car-ing it. All you need to do now is tell the BBC to stop giving me doubts with this "chance of rain" rubbish. [-o<

    Re: Parking at Barrow Hill

    All,

Looking at the BBC weather site on Friday lunchtime, the weather front will cross Barrow Hill at some point during early Saturday morning and will be clear by 9am. Otherwise dry and (hopefully) sunny all weekend...
