Then talk to @Steve, dammit man ... he was the one moaning about shovels!! :Rage:

I'm guessing the firebox door on both NE designs would challenge Terriers for "Most Uncomfortable Firing Position on a Standard Gauge Loco". Close?

I can only assume people who praise Terriers have never been on a Wainwright P ..,

Neither can be that bad Tom - at least it seems that you have a "boy" to supply you with tea from the shed whereas we have to make our own at Grosmont, time permitting:(:)

Read once some proposal for a 2foot gauge 0-6-0T for the never built.North Frodingham Line, someone built a sort of conjectured model.but wonder if the marine boiler may have been proposed. Any drawings survive at all?

The IWCR had smaller ... and nowhere near as long lived. The Hawthorn Leslie loco unit (1906) from Railmotor No.1, decoupled from the carriage some time around 1911, survived until flogged to the government towards the end of WWI

For comparison, the weight of both the IWC and NER locos was recorded as 15½T and although the IWC machine had 3'6" dia. wheels against the 3'0" of the K Class, the cylinders were smaller (9½"x14" outside against 11"x15" inside) and boiler heating surfaces were less (totals 328½ sq ft against 344.7 sq ft). To judge by photos, the front end arrangements on the Worsdell loco look infinitely better than the evidently restricted steam and exhaust circuit of the Railmltor loco.

The 2ft longer wheelbase on the IWC loco was simply explained by the position of the pivot for the carriage section.

The York shed pilot 8091 (later departmental No. 55) was fitted with the chime whistle from the bombed A4 4469. It carried it for a couple of years. Now there is a thought for the new build.

When Marcia came back from overhaul last, she was fitted with a chime whistle. It was hilarious to see people react as they heard a chime whistle on Tenterden bank, only for something the size of a roller skate to appear round the curve!
