My cameras have fully articulated rear screens which I normally find sufficient. If in doubt, I carry one of those folding plastic footstools, very light and easy carry and store.
Excellent for safety from people falling or jumping off but, as usual, the railways are paying for for vastly higher standards than the highway authorities, in inverse contrast to the casualty rates.

I get the point about a quick repaint if an overhaul is pending - needs must, and all that - though I’m less convinced by the numbering and SR livery. But if you want an easy finish that could also be an undercoat for a final paint job next year, why not instead out shop it in works grey? Would be different and at least plausibly prototypical. (With BR number and totem).

I think it’s only an intermediate overhaul, presumably just a partial retube etc

Not quite - one of two shareholders each with nearly 47% of Taw Valley Limited, and used to be until recently a SVRH director

I know nothing more than what's in the PR but as it was to traffic in 2015 it seems a lot of work in 2023/4 for something with a couple of years left. I wonder whether they've got in mind getting a longer period?

No he’s not anymore, he resigned in September
as Patrick said above. Even if he was I’m not sure what point you are trying to make as even if he was still a director the ultimate choice would rest with Taw Valley Limited, which he is of course a director of. I thought he was the majority shareholder but Patrick has explained there are actually two with an equal shareholding which forms the majority.

Some Standard 4s and one or two 15XX tanks at Old Oak were in lined black

I read it that the SVR are paying for the repaint so presumably it’s their choice

1503, 1504 and 1505 were in lined black livery during the 1950s.

Happy to be corrected here but I’m pretty sure no Std 4s were painted Green with the larger BR1b tender, all the green ones were Weston Region with the smaller BR2 tenders?

Their choice to fund and propose it but that doesn’t necessarily translate to decision.

It depends on whether any of them were overhauled at Swindon. I know one or two LMR ones were and ended up in green

No loco above 75029 received green livery. Whilst the first coat of green was done at Swindon on the 18 W.R. allocated locos concerned, Eastleigh, Doncaster, Darlington, Wolverhampton and, possibly, Cowlairs also painted any of the 18 that visited, in green livery. L.M. Region allocated 75016 was the odd one out,. It received green livery at Eastleigh in 1964.

Indeed they were, but those based at the SVR didn’t carry those respective livery’s did they?
How authentic do you want to go?

A bit more authentic than a livery never carried by any rebuilt West Country

As we’ve seen 35005 in a scheme also never carried by a rebuilt MN, I can’t get overly upset about this short term “what if”. My only major issue is that the numbering is to be 21C127, when Bulleid’s view of the rebuilds is sufficiently clear that there ought to be some form of reclassification (21C227?)

You mean like the coaching stock in LMS colours(the buffet car in chocolate and cream?) but built after 1948, the Warship that has carried several livery’s it never carried in its previous life… I could go on.
John I’m not a big fan of the current management myself, I’ve heard the same things from certain different people but your point about the SVR always being authentic does fall a little short when you consider what’s been done in the past.
If your so unhappy with what’s happening with 34027, why not get in touch with those that own it and make them an offer they can’t refuse?

A nerd writes: Sorry, but the example of the MN sequence resulting in the Light Pacifics starting from 21C101 .... becoming 34001 .... (as opposed to the way BR handled TOPS remumbering).
