A great thread and nice to see some people I know appearing in some of the shots. Here's a few of my own:

Can’t be Virgin, the ones on the outside are sitting upright rather than leaning inwards …

Avanti's idea of a relief train (for those old enough to remember what a relief train was!)

Correct, there for the Sid and Hughie weekend, good time had by all. See also the photo quiz just solved by Tom.
Summer doesn't always come earlier in the south, it just hardly ever comes here in the north!

    Image 7-16. 60528 @ Carlisle 11.12.jpg

Carlisle, 11 December 1965 as 60528 moves off the centre road before coupling to the WRS Waverley Tour - the train had arrived at Carlisle behind 45697, one of 5 steam locomotives employed that day: Black 5, 5X, A2, A4 & a V2. A slick locomotive changeover from arrival to departure took a mere 10 minutes prior to the A2 running to Edinburgh via the Waverley Route. The group of camera wielding enthusiasts most probably were off the train and their dress sense was typical of that era, jacket/trousers, even suits. No difference to the weather though, raining, as it is now...
