so when 1346 is finished and in service the next carriage to be restored (if they have funds) will be 4366 to complete set C, which from the srstock website "was the other end of Bournemouth Dining Set 298 – which is unique in Southern preservation". Later "The Luggage area was changed, and nearby corridor connection removed, to create an observation saloon area although the remainder of the interior was left largely intact"

From the photo showing it very dilapidated, they will have a lot of work to do on it!
Edit on FB they say they will have a tent at the Roads to Rail event August bank holiday, sadly does not look like I can make it.

 

On Wednesday 5th October 1346 was moved from Corfe Castle to Swanage. This was to enable the vehicle's electrics, brake system, etc to be checked - in fact a full Fitness to Run exam - before entering passenger service. 1346 is currently stabled outside the Goods Shed and is scheduled to accompany 1381 when 60103 Flying Scotsman hauls trains at the end of the month (22nd to 26th October inclusive).
Pullman Observation Car 14 is currently inside Swanage Goods Shed undergoing external repainting as well as interior refurbishment.

 

I mean, this is very off topic but in a way does link Swanage and the vintage carridge theme.
I was watching some of my old DVD's about the West Country and I did notice a few times a push-pull set bolstered with a LSWR non-corridor carridge just behind the engine [M7, as always].

How did the push-pull equipment work when there was a non push-pull carridge behind the engine itself?

 

That assumes the pull push equipment was connected in the first place...!

 

so was it

Push Pull, Engine, coach

Or

Push Pull, coach, engine

In the first case the gear will work but not in the second

Nick C replied to a question of mine the control is compressed air, so there would have been pipes in the Open Third coach linking the locomotive with the Brake Corridor Composite with the push pull cab.

Looks like although the M7 loco with the push pull gear might be back after an overhaul completes next year, it might be some years till both carriages are restored. But the M7 might be able to work pulling 2 restored non push pull Maunsell coaches for a 1930s style train.

 

I believe the M7 overhaul is progressing well but there is currently no money in the kitty for fitting pull-push equipment so far as I'm aware.
I know it is an aspiration of many - but the 'small' matter of a few [LOTS of] thousand are needed before these items can be sourced ready for fitting the M7 let alone the coaching stock.
No small undertaking and, at the moment, sheer survival is a much more important priority in my view.

They did look amazing and quite interesting really, especially when the LSWR coach was in green and the push-pull in red (or plum as they said).

 

Wait?! 30053 HAS PUSH-PULL GEAR??!!

 

So sadly the pull-push equipment was removed in the mid1960s and either used elsewhere or lost?

Where are upu seeing that? Buzby2's post specifically says that 53 does not have the gear and there's no money to buy it or fit it. Please read posts carefully before getting so excited

I STILL will be welcoming 30053 back with open arms, it will be nice to see a tank engine again.

 

From what I can remember when the chipman coaches turned up, we painted a driving trailer and ran it with 1381 for photo charters with the M7 and it was a great success and a lot of WIBN
The technology that was applied in the 1950's would not stand up to 2022 regulations.
We mused about EPB type working or other complicated air based control systems to enable modern day running.
One must remember that the original system did not work and certainly would not pass todays scrutiny.
Nice to have and a fantastic asset, but lets try and keep the Swanage Railway
buoyant

 

Both the LNER & the Southern used air operated push=pull systems, I am surprised that at least the Southern one never worked
