She looks like she's still very steam tight!

Any word on plans for her once she's withdrawn?

Yes she's in pretty good nick still. @Andy B 's one coat of paint from 9 years ago has lasted amazingly well too! Nothing official on what happens next AFAIK.

Assume railway will need a replacement for next year, at least till 2807 is back in steam.

Any ideas what's available for hire out there, assume a GWR theme would be preferable?

Wightwick Hall? One of the GWSR drivers is also a driver at Shackerstone so had some experience with 6989 in 2021. Depending on his opinions on the loco's condition that could either make this more or less likely!

Wonder if 2999 or 4144 will be doing the rounds again next year?

Unlikely to leave Didcot until late summer as lined up as a visitor in the autumn at a gala ,and going to that line first .

Is there any news on if or when the signaling will be ready and commissioned at Broadway.

In terms of flexibility, assume it increases pathways for Galas only?

It's only a matter of a couple of weeks' work to connect it all up, the main factor preventing it is the need to man it every single operating day once it first opens and whether we'd have the staff to reliably do it.

For flexibility, it actually has the potential to allow us to do more on ordinary days than galas. For galas the main sticking point is the section time, we quite often top and tail anyway so you don't gain much by having 1 train ready to go straight away. I suppose it might make it more likely things like the goods train and a short local make it up there more often though.

On ordinary running days though it would allow a Winchcombe-Broadway DMU shuttle (or auto train or short local with a pannier, one can dream :) ). Not only would it make things more interesting operationally, it would make it more viable for passengers to get off at more intermediate stations.

Hopefully we should see some progress on the actual construction/surfacing work on P2 soon.

If at present the train crew operate ground frame(s) for running round, why would it not be possible for them to operate the relevant levers in the box? (Honest enquiry, not meant to imply that I think it should be operated that way.)
