Steam Dreams 2022

Wonder if the 'new Kings Cross' amongst the timetable LNER have had with Azuma etc, is causing problems to fit it in on the direct route. It's only in KGX for 10 minutes to pickup passengers and drop them off at the end of the trip.

 

Possibly Tornado on the Yorkshire Pullman in June 2019. That's where we could do with UK Steam.

 

The tour I did with Tornado was The Christmas White Rose and was on 14th December 2019.

Going out for 4498 was a pointless exercise really given the foul conditions but it was an A4 through my home patch so had to be done. Seen here speeding through Arlesey with the regulator shut. Seconds later the driver opened up and the loco pretty much disappeared from view as the exhaust blew down in the westerly wind. 17-11-2022. Hoping for better conditions for her next ECML foray.

 

Even worse conditions up here, sadly. A record shot, not even that...

 

Yet one forecast gave sun and light showers for the Spalding area. Glad I ignored that and stayed close to home.

 

You chose wisely. It was bloody miserable.

 

No sun and heavy rain. SNG is still beautifully steam-tight, would love to see it opened up. 47 on the back just ticking over.

 

I think the 47's doing little more than house power, isn't it? I assume it'll be powering the kitchen car.

Working hard through Welwyn North this morning after a pathing stop at Digswell. I must of looked daft clinging onto my umbrella trying to take a photo and cover the still camera and video cameras at the same time!

Assuming the Mk.2s at the rear are ETH then definitely; I was assuming the rest of the stock would be heated from 4498 or is that stock dual-heat now?

What I am really pleased to see is a full rake of crimson and cream behind 4498: it has long been my favourite colour scheme and will look good behind 60007 when it returns to Express Blue which, speaking for myself, will be disappointing.

 

A quick snap of the arrival at York. Probably the best place to grab a photo considering the weather!

 

I popped along to a quiet rural location tonight to get a little closer to 4498 than I was in daylight earlier - pity there wasn't any moonlight as it was still raining! However, it made a lovely noise as it passed and the glow from the cab was just what you need to see on a night like this. At least this time the smoke was drifting away from me.

And for those strange folk who seem to get peculiarly vexed by 'a box on the back', the 47 at the rear was merely idling.

 

LNER A4 No.4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley' is seen today at Arlesey Station, Beckingham Loop and Colton Junction.
